BOOK DESCRIPTION

“Benedick Kimbrell attempted to steal his first kiss from Miss Catherine Parker in the perfectly imperfect spring of 1808. But his hopes, then and since, were larger than fact.”

A LADY’S UNSPOKEN LONGING

Kate Parker is resolute in her quest for marriage, seeking a dependable match among Newford’s eligible bachelors. But behind her composed demeanor, Kate’s heart holds a stubborn affection for her less-than-dependable friend and an unspoken longing for a kiss that was never claimed.

A ROGUE’S LOST AMBITION

Years ago, Ben Kimbrell harbored ambitions, chief among them a kiss from Miss Kate Parker. Fate, though, had other plans. Now, his heart is weighted by family tragedy, his pain concealed behind a carefree charm. His reputation as an aimless rogue is well-earned, but beneath the façade lies a man who yearns for more.

AND A HEART WELL-GUARDED

When Kate sets her sights on Ben’s dependable cousin, a man who fits her expectations if not her heart, Ben can no longer stand idly by. His efforts to save her from a loveless match find the two of them paired together in a village production of Much Ado About Nothing. Tasked with crafting the enchanting sets for their town’s inaugural performance, their undeniable affection finds the perfect stage to blossom.

But for their love to flourish, Ben must reveal his true self and confront the shadows of his past. Can he find the courage to unlock his heart before it’s too late?

Kissing Kate is a heartwarming best-friends romance about finding the courage to choose happiness and the healing power of love. Set in the charming seaside village of Newford, each book in the Hearts of Cornwall series stands alone.

REVIEW

From the desk of Gwendalyn:

This book was received from the Author, and Publisher, in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.

This is a non spoiler review, because you as reader need to read this book. Also, I feel sometimes I have in the past gave away to much of the plot line. This has diminished the pleasure for would be readers.

Kissing Kate by K. Lyn Smith is warmhearted tender romance.

The fourth installment in the Hearts of Cornwall Series, readers follow Miss Catherine Parker (Kate), and Benedick Kimbrell. It was a delight to return to the beautiful Cornish countryside. Set against the backdrop of a community production of “Much Ado About Nothing.” Which happens to be the first play for Newford’s new theatre.

It’s 1820 and twenty three year Kate has decided to take things into her own hands if she doesn’t want to end up a spinster. Her friend Ben, she considers unmarriageable, so she sets her sights on Ben’s cousin. All in all she experiences several failed attempts with Ben’s cousin, Merryn Kimbrell.

Ben has harbored a longing for the elegant Miss Kate for twelve long years. A longing to kiss the woman who he secretly is smitten with becomes elusive. His family drama and regrets way heavily on his shoulders.

An angsty, slow burn proper romance, filled with lovely characters, set in a village atmosphere . An irresistible, enjoyable read that will have readers rooting for Kate and Ben to finally have their chance for a warmhearted romance.

I enjoyed the details of a country village life, simple but so rewarding. The author’s rich descriptive writing helped me fall in love with the main Mc’s and sub-characters. A friends to enemies romance, along with complex family dynamics.

Recommend for readers who enjoy tender, proper romance’s with down to earth characters.

REVIEW

From The Desk Of Gwendalyn

This book was received from the Author, and Publisher, in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.

This is a non spoiler review, because you as reader need to read this book. Also, I feel sometimes I have in the past gave away to much of the plot line. This has diminished the pleasure for would be readers.

A Winter by the Sea By Julie Klassen second installment in her charming On Devonshire Shores Series

Julie Klassen continues her delightful story of the Summers sisters along with their mother, who have Sidmouth a beautiful seaside town located in East Devon. Their reduction in funds has motivated them to open Sea View, a guest house for borders.

Set during the winter of 1819, which should have been a slower time, sees a surprise guest to the community of Sidmouth. England’s Prince Edward, his wife, and daughter Victoria arrive and have taken up residence at Woolbrook Cottage. Some of Dukes party of are lodging at Sea View. One in particular is the Duke’s private secretary, James Thomson. Mr. Thomson is captivated by Emily Summers, who literally dreams to become a notable writer seems to be at a standstill. Also to Emily’s confusion Charles Parker has returned, adding a proper love triangle. The two other boarders at Sea View that have accompanied the duke, are Antoine Bernardi the Prince’s Pastry Chief and the royal Keeper of The Plate, Selwyn During.

The Summer Sisters family Saga is such a rewarding reading experience. I treasured my time returning to Sidmouth shores and charming Sea View guest house.

Julie Klassen has written another richly detailed historical fiction, along with characters I have come to love and care about. The storyline involves Emily with Sarah as a tie in. Emily is so far my favorite Summer Sister, and I completely invested in her life, but I also was there for Sarah’s part. The royal family and future-Queen Victoria added so much to book. I am excited to read future books in this warm hearted and completely engaging book series.

I highly recommend!

Garden of the Midnights by Hannah Linder is truly a lovely regency story.

Hanna Linders’s newest book is full of mystery and romance. The book follows William Kensley and Isabella. William has inherited a sustainable estate, Rosenleigh Manor. When questionnable attempts on his life has moved him to wonder who would want him removed from his new status. Shadows from his unknown father further complicate matters, and he only wants answers.

In a series of events everything changes, and his world takes a devastating twist. His budding relationship with Isabella Gresham is the only light in his tragic life. When she is threatened he must face a foe from his past.

Readers will find the multi-layered mystery complex, along with just enough romance to keep them immersed. William’s faith is tested and his struggle feels real.

What immediately grabbed my attention in this story was the complexity of the characters. All characters were raw, honest, and flawed. This book was filled with compelling characters and I really enjoyed everything that each of them brought to this story throughout the novel. Hanna Linder’s incorporates faith based elements within her storyline that seems authentic, and adds so much to the overall storyline. Fellow readers will enjoy this moving historical fiction.

Happy Reading ♡

An Unsuitable Heiress by Jane Dunn delights readers once again with a Regency period historical fiction. Set right after The Battle of Waterloo, 1815, the book follows a resilient heroine, illegitimate Corinna Ormesby. Corinna lost touch with her father after the death of her mother. When her cousin promotes a monotonous marriage

she takes things into her own hands. She cleverly disguise herself in a young gentleman’s clothing, and heads to London to seek her father out. In route she meets three dashing men, who take her under their wing and show her all the delights and sounds that are usually only reserved for wealthy men of London.

Jane Dunn delivers a vividly descriptive, interesting, and well-written read here with characters and a setting that totally captivated and intrigued me. Readers be captivated by the slow burn romance Regency romp, with nods to Georgette Heyer.

I fell in love with characters and the descriptive authentic language, that really add so much to the storyline.

Bravo to Jane Dun, for writing a stunning book, that was a joy to read. I loved every minute I spent within the pages of this lovely book.

BOOK DESCRIPTION

A “wildly inventive and utterly addictive” (Julia Quinn) witchy reimagining of Pride and Prejudice, told from the perspective of the troublesome and—according to her—much-maligned youngest Bennet sister, Lydia.

In this exuberant retelling of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, Lydia Bennet puts pen to paper to relate the real events and aftermath of the classic story. Some facts are well known: Mrs. Bennet suffers from her nerves, Mr. Bennet suffers from Mrs. Bennet, and all five daughters suffer from an estate that is entailed only to male heirs.

But Lydia also suffers from entirely different concerns: her best-loved sister Kitty is really a barn cat; Wickham is every bit as wicked as the world believes him to be, but what else would one expect from a demon? And if Mr. Darcy is uptight about etiquette, that’s nothing compared to his feelings about magic. Most of all, Lydia has yet to learn that for a witch, promises have power . . .

Full of enchantment, intrigue, and boundless magic, The Scandalous Confessions of Lydia Bennet, Witch, has all the irreverent wit, strength, and romance of Pride and Prejudice—while offering a highly unexpected redemption for the wildest Bennet sister.

Review

From the desk of Gwendalyn Anderson

This book was received from the Author, and Publisher, in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.

This is a non spoiler review, because you as reader need to read this book. Also, I feel sometimes I have in the past gave away to much of the plot line. This has diminished the pleasure for would be readers.

The Scandalous Confessions of Lydia Bennet, Witch by Melinda Taub, is the perfect twist on Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice.

Quote:

“It is a truth universally acknowledged that the seventh daughter of a seventh daughter must be a witch.”

A tantalizing story that features Miss Lydia Bennet as a witch, and her familiar, Kitty.

I throughly enjoyed this book that infuses witchcraft into the events in the beloved Jane Austen classic. New light is breathed into some of Jane’s underrated characters in the original book. The narration along with the superb character development kept me spellbound. From the first page I was hooked, and I found myself completely immersed, and was unable to set it aside. The magical elements in the storyline was inventive and engaging. So creative and original, I especially loved how it was written in a epistolary format. As a reader you feel that you are the receiver of a personal letter. This way the author is able to catapult the reader into the events of the book. It also gives an insight into the characters reasoning for their actions and feelings.

Bravo Melinda Taub, for writing a book that completely fascinated me and I couldn’t put down, along with not being able to stop thinking about it long after I finished reading it.

The Scandalous Confessions of Lydia Bennet, Witch it is quite the deliciously fun, compelling and an all consuming page-turner.

Quote:

“There are all kinds of sacrifices, are they not? What matters is not what the sacrifice is, but what it cost. And it need not be you who pays it“

PRAISE FOR THE SCANDALOUS CONFESSIONS OF LYDIA BENNET, WITCH

“Funny and fierce as Lydia Bennet herself, this book mixes witchcraft lore with Austen’s story to make its own unique magic. I’ll never look at Kitty the same way again…” ―Claudia Gray, author of The Murder of Mr. Wickham, a Mr. Darcy and Miss Tilney Mystery

“Taub’s wit and creativity shines through. . . A delight for both Austen lovers and fans of magical adventure stories.” ―Kirkus Reviews

“Wildly inventive and utterly addictive. I never thought I’d say this, but I’m now 100% Team Lydia.” ―Julia Quinn

In Edwardian London, not all that glitters is gold as a lady and an intelligence officer’s secret mission take them from the city’s dazzling ballrooms to its covert intelligence offices.

Sir Merritt Livingstone has spent a decade serving the monarch in the field, but when pneumonia lands him behind a desk in the War Office Intelligence Division just as they’re creating a new secret intelligence branch, he’s intent on showing his worth. My publisher invited me to attend an all-expenses paid writing retreat at the posh new Hartfield Regency Resort in Loveland, Colorado. Carole isn’t nice like that—there must be a catch.

There is. His name is Ryder Hawk, the outlaw leader of the all-male Western writers who work for the same publishing company. He thinks he’s agreed to attend an all-expenses-paid week at a dude ranch.

Yeah, no. Carole has other ideas. She wants to break into the cowboy romance market. If I want to renew my writing contract, I have to do more than put up with Ryder and his gang of cowboy cronies for a week. We have to write together.

The problem is, Ryder and I have a history.

And it’s more like war than peace.

REVIEW

A Wonderful Romcom, With Nods To Jane Austen

We follow Lucy, a dedicated Regency styled author who is on her way to a writer’s retreat at Hartfield Regency Resort. When she bumps into a handsome cowboy at the airport who just happens to be boarding the same plane. They exchange a little flirtatious dialogue, without each other really knowing who each other are.

The writers retreat is usually a Regency author’s retreat, but Lucy’s publisher has decided to add male authors, who write western novels to be included in the mix. Lucy’s books are a steady sweet second right behind western author Ryder Hawk, on the bestseller list. Which tends to baffle Lucy as she is definitely proud of her book genre settings and subject matter. All in all she knows she is a better author than any western writer.

Fireworks ignite in this delightful, spunky contemporary book, with nods to Jane Austen. The authors writing flows effortlessly, along with the relatable characters. Lucy is a snarky woman who I just loved, and Ryder was a swoon worthy counterpart. A book that will keep a smile on your face all the way through, because of the delightful banter between Lucy and Ryder.

I am excited to see what’s in store in the next book in this series.

BOOK DESCRIPTION

Bridgerton meets Agatha Christie in Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Lord, a dazzling first entry in a terrific new Regency-era cozy series with a feminist spin.

When Lady Petra Forsyth’s fiancé and soulmate dies just weeks ahead of their wedding, she makes the shocking proclamation―in front of London’s loosest lips―that she will never remarry. A woman of independent means, Petra sees no reason to cede her wealth and freedom to any man now that the love of her life has passed, nor does she intend to become confined to her country home. Instead, she uses her title to gain access to elite spaces and enjoy the best of society without expectations.

But when ballroom gossip suggests that a longtime friend has died of “melancholia” while in the care of a questionable physician, Petra vows to use her status to dig deeper―uncovering a private asylum where men pay to have their wives and daughters locked away, or worse. Just as Lady Petra has reason to believe her friend is not dead, but a prisoner, her own headstrong actions and thirst for independence are used to put her own freedom in jeopardy.

AUTHOR MESSAGE

Hello, Dear Readers,

I’m incredibly honored you’re here to help me reveal the cover for the first book in my new historical mystery series, Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Lord.

The idea for this book took hold during the pandemic, when I was watching period dramas on the regular, including all my favorite Jane Austen adaptations and Downton Abbey. And of course, in nearly every one, there was the notion of the unmarried woman being a rather pitiable character. I began thinking about how the spinsters never got to be in the limelight, especially in the Regency period. They were hardly ever seen as strong, or capable, or worthy of respect, and I thought to myself that a main character who valued her independence and embraced her decision not to marry would make for a heroine I would like to write.

And thus, dear readers, I am overjoyed to introduce you to Lady Petra Forsyth. Daughter of the Fifth Earl of Holbrook, accomplished equestrienne, goddaughter to the Duchess of Hillmorton, and a woman in possession of her own fortune.

After the death of her fiancé three years ago, Lady Petra’s already headstrong ways—which include occasionally riding astride in her brother’s old breeches—came to include living her life on her own terms. That is, without a husband—though not everyone sees her decision as the right one, or the ladylike one. And when the purported death of a dear friend seems intertwined with mentions of a mysterious physician, Petra does the most unladylike thing she can: she starts asking questions.

When Petra formed in my mind as a character, I saw her with little bits of some of my favorite…well, almost-spinsters. Such as Emma Woodhouse, who was initially willing to go her own way and remain unmarried in a time where doing just that was an incredible risk for a woman, no matter what her financial status. And then there’s Downton Abbey’s Lady Edith, who recognized her talents and carved out a satisfying life for herself as anentrepreneur and businesswoman. She didn’t let it stop her from romance, either…

Another thing my inspirations for Petra have in common is that I feel they would all have made excellent amateur sleuths. Some would say it’s because spinsters have an inclination toward nosiness, but I would say it’s their sharp minds and a refusal to give up on what’s important. I think Petra certainly begins to develop the knack for investigating—whether or not those around her approve—and I very much hope you’ll enjoy riding alongside her for her very first adventure.

All my best,

Celeste

Dear Readers,

I am excited to give you an insider’s look at my December 2023 novel, A Winter by the Sea. This is the second book in the On Devonshire Shores series. Book One, The Sisters of Sea View, has been enthusiastically received and reviewed. I am grateful for each of you who helped spread the word about it!

During my research, I learned that the Duke and Duchess of Kent and their baby daughter stayed in Woolbrook Cottage (very near fictional Sea View) during the winter of 1819-1820. I instantly knew I wanted to include them in the novel to give readers a glimpse of the early life of Queen Victoria and her parents. The royal party arrived with too many attendants to accommodate at Woolbrook, so some were lodged elsewhere. I thought it would be fun to have a few staff members stay at Sea View, including a pastry chef who invades their kitchen, a man in desperate straits, and the duke’s handsome private secretary.

It was also interesting to write a seaside novel set during wintertime (it was unusually cold and snowy that year). Because I live in frigid Minnesota, cold weather details and sensations were easy to imagine. 😊

When I began writing this series, I had not yet traveled to Sidmouth, where the series is set. I am happy to say I was able to visit in August 2022 and was thrilled to experience this delightful town in person. The highlight of that trip was meeting the staff and volunteers of the Sidmouth Museum who have been extremely helpful in answering research questions and checking setting details for me.

A Winter by the Sea focuses on beautiful Emily Summers, who finds herself caught up in two rivalries. First, while striving to further her writing aspirations, Emily is torn between her loyalty to a well-established publisher & bookseller and his flamboyant competitor. Second, despite her best intentions, she is attracted to one of their new guests, but an old love comes to town, determined to renew their courtship.

I hope you are eager to return with me to the English seaside for Book Two of the On Devonshire Shores series. Thank you for all you do to support my books, and readers everywhere!

Gratefully, Julie

REVIEW

This book was received from the Author, and Publisher, in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.

This is a non spoiler review, because you as reader need to read this book. Also, I feel sometimes I have in the past gave away to much of the plot line. This has diminished the pleasure for would be readers.

The Maid of Ballymacool by Jennifer Deibel, follows a sweet young Irish woman Brianna Kelly. Brianna was abandoned on the steps of the Ballymacool House and Boarding School when she was just an infant. Maureen Magee, the harsh headmistress of Boarding School has made sure that Brianna knows her place as a servant.

Michael Wray the son of a local lord, is tasked with checking on his wayward female cousin at Ballymacool House. He can’t help being drawn to tinder hearted Brianna Kelly. Even though they are separated by completely opposite social classes, Michael is smitten by the young lass. Michael finds Mistress Magee treatment of Brianna ghastly, and uncalled for. Together Brianna and Michael seek to unravel the mystery surrounding Brianna’s parentage.

This was such a lovely Cinderella styled clean historical romance. I found the setting and details wonderful, along with budding romance of Brianna and Michael. There is a mystery that unfolds that keeps readers in a state of suspense.

This was such a delightful book read, that once I started reading it I found myself captivated by the characters and the mystery.

Thanks so much to Laurel Ann Nattress Austenprose PR

SYNOPSIS

In 1715, Lady Blythe Hedley’s father is declared an enemy of the British crown because of his Jacobite sympathies, forcing her to flee her home in northern England. Secreted to the tower of Wedderburn Castle in Scotland, Lady Blythe awaits who will ultimately be crowned king. But in a house with seven sons and numerous servants, her presence soon becomes known.

No sooner has Everard Hume lost his father, Lord Wedderburn, than Lady Hedley arrives with the clothes on her back and her mistress in tow. REVIEW

From the desk of Gwendalyn-

This book was received from the Author, and Publisher, in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.

This is a non spoiler review, because you as reader need to read this book. Also, I feel sometimes I have in the past gave away to much of the plot line. This has diminished the pleasure for would be readers.

“You are still my English rose . . .
while I remain your
Scottish thistle.”

An exquisite historical fiction with picturesque settings, and wonderful superb details.

The Rose and the Thistle by Laura Frantz is heady historical romance set in Scotland during the perilous times of the Jacobite uprising in 1715.

Lady Blythe Hedley and her lady’s companion, barely escape with their lives as they fly through the night from northern England to the Wedderburn Castle in Scotland. Lady Blythe’s father, the Earl of Northumberland is embroiled heavily in the Jacobite cause. Which supported the restoration of the senior line of the House of Stuart to the British throne. Even though her father had already laid out plans just encase such a situation should arise. Nothing prepared Blythe and her dearest companion and confidante, for the challenges they will face in Scotland.

Everything is in chaos upon their arrival at Wedderburn Castle, as Blythe finds herself thrown in a house of mourning. Her godfather late Lord Wedderburn, has just passed away, and the eldest son, Everard Hume is coming terms with his new role as heir. Being the eldest of seven brothers he is now tasked with keeping his families estate intact as the shifting tides of religious upheaval threatens to tear all of England, and Scotland apart. Trying to keep the lady Blythe’s presence a secret is important, but the demanding English Rose might be a more of challenge than he can handle. Harboring the young lady who is a practicing Catholic, and that her father is a Jacobitism supporter, could mean disaster for Hume’s outward loyalty to the Crown….and to Everard and Blythe’s heart !

Oh this was a lovely historical fiction that I fell in over the hills love in with. A blossoming friendship that slowly turns into something more. Both main characters overcoming religious and background challenges, to learn how to except each other for who they are.

A moving and treasured book that leaves with a warm heart and a delightful smile on your face after long after closing the book. This is my first foray with this author and I completely understand her wide following. Her writing is superb, along with historical atmospheric imagery, that had me completely invested within the characters lives.

I am so excited to find this very talented author, and I look forward to going back and reading her past work!

Happy Reading-
