A sweeping Regency tale of identity, devotion, and unexpected romance.
Lady Antonella thought she knew who she was—until a shattering family secret strips her of her name, her place in society, and her future. Cast adrift in Cornwall, she finds an injured goshawk in a poacher’s net and begins to nurse it back to health. But the hawk belongs to the war-scarred Lord Atherleigh—a man haunted by loss, determined to dismantle his mews, and certainly not expecting a spirited young woman to upend his solitude.
In London, her twin sister Belinda—radiant, poised, and newly on the marriage market—has only one goal: to find a worthy match… for Antonella. But when Hector Gainesworth, a charming rogue with laughter in his eyes and secrets of his own, turns his attention to Belinda instead, her heart begins to spin in an altogether unexpected direction.
As the sisters navigate betrayal, desire, and the demands of their hearts, two men must decide whether to risk everything for love. And Antonella’s goshawk may be the wild, winged thread that binds their fates.

The Falconer’s Lost Baron by Susanne Dunlap Genre: Regency Romance Tour Dates: 1st – 8th December 2025 Publication Date: 1st December 2025 Standalone | Book 4 in the Double-Dilemma Romance series
The Falconer’s Lost Baron by Susanne Dunlap is the fourth installment in the Double-Dilemma Romance series.
Two sisters, one shocking secret, and a winter full of unexpected love. The Falconer’s Lost Baron is a tender and uplifting Regency romance that weaves together themes of identity, sisterhood, and second chances against the charming backdrop of falconry.
Antonella and Belinda Ambleton grew up believing they were twins. But just before their long-awaited visit to London, they learn a life-altering truth: only one is legitimate, and the other—Antonella—has no claim to her name or position. Cast out of the only world she’s ever known, Antonella retreats to the solace of her falcons. There, fate brings her face-to-face with Malcolm Tennant, Lord Atherleigh, a scarred war hero who has lost both his hand and his hope.
Meanwhile, Belinda faces her own challenges as she tries to safeguard her sister’s future—while battling the increasingly complicated affections of the charming Mr. Gainesworth. What unfolds is a story of rediscovered worth, sacrifice, and the restorative power of love.
Susanne Dunlap once again deliverers a beautifully written story full of heart, historical depth, and emotional truth. Her pacing feels effortless, and the dual-romance structure balances perfectly—one story grounded in quiet healing, the other in fiery temptation.
The falconry element is a refreshing and fascinating twist; it ties beautifully into the novel’s themes of freedom and recovery. Watching Antonella’s bond with the birds evolve felt symbolic of her journey—learning to trust herself, her instincts, and her place in the world again.
What stood out most to me, though, was the portrayal of sisterhood. The love between Antonella and Belinda carries just as much emotional weight as the romantic plots, reminding readers that devotion and courage come in many forms.
If you love emotionally rich Regency tales with independent heroines, layered relationships, and a touch of the unusual, this one belongs on your December TBR.

Everyone knows of William Shakespeare, the rakish former actor and famous playwright. But few know the three women writing every word of his plays: Mary Herbert, Countess of Pembroke, a frustrated poet; Emelia Bassano, a court musician with a passion for complex stories; and Jane Daggett, a seamstress with an impressive ability to spin fantastic plots. Frustrated by the patriarchal restrictions of their sixteenth-century society, they come together to write anonymously.
As the plague deepens its grip on London and the Queen’s man traces their every move, the women are forced to choose between admitting what they’ve done and betraying each other to the Crown or hiding the truth at risk of endangering the Queen herself.
The Shakespeare Secret is a thrilling feminist tale of perseverance, justice, and freedom where friendship and trust are put to the test, for fans of Tracy Chevalier and Charlie Lovett.

Historical fiction meets feminist intrigue in this twisty, clever reimagining of literary history.
What if Shakespeare didn’t write Shakespeare? In The Shakespeare Secret, D.J. Nix takes that age-old question and spins it into a rich, entertaining thriller set against the dark and dazzling world of Elizabethan London.
Three women—Mary Herbert, Emelia Bassano, and Jane Daggett—each brilliant in her own way, are bound by their frustration with the limits imposed on them by society. Together, they craft the plays that will shape English literature forever—but only if they can stay hidden, outmaneuver the Queen’s spies, and find the right man to take credit for their genius.
This novel is a page-turner with brains, heart, and sharp edges. It’s equal parts literary mystery, political thriller, and feminist uprising. The tension crackles, the dialogue sings, and the “what if” premise is executed with precision and flair.

A down-on-her-luck Victorian governess and an unrepentant rogue enter into a fake engagement during a lengthy voyage at sea in USA Today bestselling author Mimi Matthews’s sixth book in her acclaimed Somerset Stories series.
Stranded in India after being dismissed without a reference, governess Beatrice Layton exchanges her freedom for passage home to England, taking a position with the only family that will hire her. But Bea hasn’t reckoned for just how dreadful her new employers will be. Stuck with them at sea in increasingly desperate circumstances, she finds an unlikely champion in the injured ex-soldier traveling aboard their ship.
Colonel Jack Beresford has spent the last fourteen years serving in Her Majesty’s Army. Though time has lent him maturity, it hasn’t dulled the roguish impulses of his youth. When he’s confronted with the tantalizing prospect of a damsel in distress, he naturally steps in to rescue her. His solution? An engagement of convenience, of course. One that will last only as long as their voyage.
But once back on land, Jack and Bea’s simple arrangement is beset by complication after complication. There are former passengers to contend with, and meddling society matrons. Most complicated of all, there’s Jack’s family—his parents, siblings, and precocious nieces and nephews—all of whom seem to think that Bea might be perfect for him. Jack is beginning to think so too. All that remains is to convince bold, beguiling Bea that he’s perfect for her.

The Governess and the Rogue,is a beautifully tender finale to Mimi Matthews’ Somerset Stories—a series that has held my heart from the very beginning. While this sixth book can easily be enjoyed as a standalone, long-time readers will be thrilled by the return of familiar faces and the warm, interconnected world Mimi so carefully builds.
In this beautifully rendered Victorian romance, Mimi Matthews once again proves why she’s a beloved voice in historical fiction. Her sixth entry in the Somerset Stories series delivers everything readers adore—nuanced characters, slow-burn yearning, and a story rooted in both honor and heart.
After being unjustly dismissed in India, governess Beatrice Layton faces the terrifying prospect of returning to England with no money, no reference, and no protection. When she secures a position with a disagreeable family bound for home by sea, her plight only worsens—until fate intervenes in the form of a wounded, rakishly charming army officer.
Colonel Jack Beresford has seen war and loss, but when he meets Bea aboard the ship, he’s moved by her strength and quiet dignity. To shield her from disgrace, he offers a solution: a fake engagement to last just until they dock in England.
But what begins as a protective fiction grows dangerously close to reality. Back on land, entanglements mount—former shipmates, high society’s whispers, and most meddlesome of all, Jack’s delightfully interfering family. Suddenly, the lines between pretend and possible begin to blur. And for Jack and Bea, walking away may no longer be so simple.
Matthews weaves an exquisite tale full of emotional tension, sparkling wit, and just the right amount of societal drama. Readers who love the governess trope, slow-burn romance, and emotionally mature heroes will find this an utter delight. Elegant, tender, and brimming with charm—this story of love born in the unlikeliest of places lingers long after the final page.
Uplifting, emotionally nuanced, and oh-so-swoony, The Governess and the Rogue is historical romance at its finest.
Highly recommended for fans of clean romance, feminist heroines, and happily-ever-afters that feel earned.

Set in the peaceful English village of Bramnor, this story follows Bridget Littleton, a bold young woman passionate about uncovering the past—and Captain Rafe Hawthorn, a wounded veteran determined to secure his future. When their dreams clash over a newly discovered Roman mosaic, sparks fly, secrets unravel, and hearts are tested.
Told in dual POVs, this novel is a masterclass in slow-burn romance, with layers of faith and forgiveness at its core. The enemies-to-lovers dynamic simmers deliciously, and the emotional growth of both characters is deeply satisfying. Hovde’s prose is lyrical, her research is rich, and her message is hopeful.
Whether you’re in it for the brooding hero, the clever heroine, the archaeological mystery, or the spiritual journey—this book delivers. Highly recommended for fans of Julie Klassen, Sarah Ladd, or anyone craving historical romance with depth

The son she believed dead, the illegitimate child of a forbidden love, still lives. To secure his future, she must marry within a month—without revealing the truth. Her best prospect? The Duke of Hartland, a notorious rake drowning in debt.
Meanwhile, Hartland sets his sights on Olivia Fontenoy, an heiress whose fortune could solve all his problems. But innocent Olivia dreams of music, not marriage, and seizes the chance to perform in disguise at the King’s Theatre—unwittingly ensnaring everyone she knows in scandal.
A princess with a scandalous secret. A duke desperate for a wealthy bride. A debutante torn between duty and passion.
As deception and desire collide, Olivia finds herself drawn to Hartland’s closest friend, the quiet yet passionate Marquess of Lewiston—a man who offers her something far more profound than mere security. And for Adelheid, an unexpected alliance may hold the key to her dreams.
With a surprising ending worthy of grand opera, The Soprano’s Daring Duke is a sweeping Regency tale of love, risk, and the courage to defy expectations.
REVIEW
The Soprano’s Daring Duke is the second installment Book in the Double Dilemma Romance Series by the very talented author Susanne Dunlap
The Soprano’s Daring Duke is a richly layered Regency romance that delivers scandal, secrets, and soaring emotion in equal measure. Set in a society where appearances are everything, this novel explores what happens when love—and music—refuse to stay hidden.
At its heart are two strikingly different heroines, both struggling under the weight of society’s expectations, both dealing with their own secrets.
Princess Adelheid Kinsky is newly widowed and finally free from a cruel husband—or so she thinks. But when she learns that the child she believed lost is alive, she must obey her late husband’s codicil if she wants to inherit anything, and marry a respectable nobleman and must claim her illegitimate child as his heir.
So she travels to London during the height of the season and sets her cap on infamous Duke of Hartland, a charming rake with a mountain of debt. Yet beneath his devil-may-care attitude, we glimpse a man capable of true loyalty and affection.
Olivia Fontenoy is a debutante that dreams of marrying for love, and a chance to let her voice fly free. Restricted by society and bullied by her over bearing mother to secure a good match. When she is pursed by the fortune-hunting Duke, Hartland she feels trapped. Olivia takes her reputation into her own hands and does the unthinkable and steps onto the King’s Theatre in disguise. Her risky behavior could well be her undoing, and her is drawn to a kindred spirit the Marquess of Lewiston.
Susanne Dunlap meticulously weaves dual storylines beautifully, blending high stakes with heart, deception with desire. Themes of sacrifice, freedom, and choosing love over convention give this novel a resonant emotional core.
♡ I was captivated from start to finish, and I especially enjoyed that music played such a central role. I am looking forward to the next book in this stunning regency series.

Welcome to my Review of Rules For Ruin By Mimi Matthews

Rules for Ruin by Mimi Matthew’s is stunning first installment in her latest new book series The Crinoline Academy.
🩷
Victorian England in the Spring of April 1864, readers follow Effie who is called back from France to England, by Miss Corvus’s who runs Benevolent Academy For The Bitterment of Young Ladies. Orphaned at a young age Effie attended the unconventional academy for young ladies. A ladies companion to Madame Dalhousie, she now has travel experience, behind her and sophistication.Miss Corvus tasked her with bringing down and ruin a sinister politician.
Lord Compton, an influential and corrupt politician who opposes the Married Women’s Property Act. Posing as young debutante Effie sets out to infiltrate the close family circle of Lord Campton when she crosses paths with a self proclaimed lord of the inner slum area of London known as the Rookery. Gabriel Royce is brute force to be reckoned with.
He has known hardships just like his fellow patrons who happen to live in an area of extreme poverty. He raised himself up and now controls his the empire he created. His heart is into making a substantial difference to the people who are in need help. He seeks to create better living conditions and education for those less fortunate.
Mimi Matthews spectacular new book is absolutely brilliant. The characters within this storyline are top notch. I feel in love with Effie and Gabriel Royce, they are by far my favorites of all her novels. Mimi’s signature style writing insured that I was captivated by plenty of swoon worthy moments. More suspense and with higher stakes, the three dimensional out characters kept me engaged from start to finish. I especially adored Effie’s little side kick toy poodle named, Franc. The storyline has more depth with a focus on systemic inequalities and injustices faced by women.
Edgy and fierce, Mimi Matthews’s Rules for Ruin shows us that ladies crinolines be very handy in concealing daggers 🗡️ 🩷
I highly recommend this book for its morally grey hero and spunky heroine.

The Mysteries of Pendowar Hall by Syrie James is a stunning gothic tale.
Readers follow a bold and curious, female MC, Diana Taylor. Who finds herself tasked by her ailing stepmother to uncover facts about the suspicious death of the late Sir Thomas, her stepmother’s brother. She travels to Pendowar Hall, to take up a position as a as governess to her stepmothers niece, the late of Sir Thomas’s daughter. The late Sir Thomas’s daughter Emma, has been a challenging pupil to her past governess. Her inability to grasp the concept of traditional reading comprehension has proven a key factor for having so many governess resigned from their positions. The master of Pendowar Hall in Cornwall has a new master, Captain Fallbrook. Diana finds herself drawn to her broody new employer. She will need to keep her wits about her as strange occurrences, along with a mythical legend add to the mystery.
Syrie James has exceeded all my expectations, in this fabulous historical mystery. Through her seamless narration her characters come to life. The mystery and the historical setting was betrayed perfectly. Rich atmospheric details, along with some of the best narrative framework, make this a stand out book.
I highly recommend this book for those looking for a true gothic mystery and a delightful sweet romance !

Readers follow Liz Flannery, as she is etching out what’s left of her life after a post apocalyptic Storm that has obliterated the world as she and everyone else has known. Living in abandoned bookstore that she used to work at in post-Storm New Jersey. She trades books for supplies, and people stop by to post letters for loved ones. She journals the coming and going of the people who pass by. As another horrific storm is approaching she finds herself in desperate need of more supplies, also the bookstore needs repairs fast. Her situation changes when the book store is broken in by another teen named Maeve. Liz gives shelter to Maeve and realizes that Maeve just might be what she has needed.
This moving human element storyline completely surprised me. Set to a futuristic post cataclysmic storm, the tender romance was perfectly executed. Through Lily Braun-Arnold narrative I fell in love with the engaging character and the detailed setting.

Innovative world building and spectacular character development, make this fantasy duology outstanding. Tamsin and Emrys’s enemies to lovers was everything I hoped it would be. There was some unforeseen twist that added so much to the storyline, and kept me entertained from start to finish. Thank you @tbrbeyondtours @crystaljbell for sending me a wonderful print arc, and for having me on this tour
The Lamplighter by Crystal J Bell is a YA gothic horror at its finest. Reminiscent of older gothic tales. Where the author takes their time in setting up the characters and giving readers just enough details to keep them guessing. Set in the nineteenth century New England whaling town of Warbler, Connecticut. A treacherous fog, that rolls in every night to catch those who are misfortunate to find themselves outside in it.
Headstrong and determined, Temperance has taken up her father’s profession as a Lamplighter, following his death. She cares for her sister and her mother, keeping the lamppost when claustrophobic fog threatens every night. In a series of events Temp’s ability to maintain her position comes under attack, when two lamppost mysteriously go out. Struggling to clear her name in an era that women do not have voice.
Crystal Bell’s debut book, has fierce and compelling main character. The ominous gothic setting was wonderful depicted. Female rage, along with some heavy topics made this YA book a thought provoking book. The unexpected ending that totally took me by surprise and left me feeling very satisfied.

The bestselling author of The Jane Austen Society and Bloomsbury Girls returns with a brilliant novel of love and art, of grief and memory, of confronting the past and facing the future.
In 1955, Vivien Lowry is at a crossroads in life. Her latest play, the only female-authored play on the London stage that season, has opened in the West End to rapturous applause from the audience. The reviewers, however, are not as impressed as the playgoers and their savage notices not only shut down the play but ruin Vivien’s last chance for theatrical success. With her future in London not looking bright, at the suggestion of her friend, Peggy Guggenheim, Vivien takes a job as a script doctor on a major film shooting in Rome’s Cinecittà Studios. There she finds a vibrant moviemaking scene filled with rising stars, acclaimed directors, and famous actors in a country that is torn between its past and its potentially bright future, between the liberation of the post-war cinema and the restrictions of the Catholic Church that permeate the very soul of Italy.
As Vivien tries to forge a new future for herself, she also searches for the long-buried truth of the recent World War and the fate of her deceased fiancé lost in battle. Every Time We Say Goodbye is a bold and moving exploration of trauma and tragedy, hope and renewal, filled with dazzling characters both real and imaginary, from the incomparable author who charmed the world with her novels The Jane Austen Society and Bloomsbury Girls.

A moving folk horror tale that had me glued to the pages. I was easily able to connect with the MC Leah, and the writing was solid. The found family is always one of my favorite troupes. I highly recommend this book to those looking for a great cottage core tale with a deeper meaning strung through out the storyline.

Kissing Kate by K. Lyn Smith is warmhearted tender romance.
The fourth installment in the Hearts of Cornwall Series, readers follow Miss Catherine Parker (Kate), and Benedick Kimbrell. It was a delight to return to the beautiful Cornish countryside. Set against the backdrop of a community production of “Much Ado About Nothing.” Which happens to be the first play for Newford’s new theatre.
It’s 1820 and twenty three year Kate has decided to take things into her own hands if she doesn’t want to end up a spinster. Her friend Ben, she considers unmarriageable, so she sets her sights on Ben’s cousin. All in all she experiences several failed attempts with Ben’s cousin, Merryn Kimbrell.
Ben has harbored a longing for the elegant Miss Kate for twelve long years. A longing to kiss the woman who he secretly is smitten with becomes elusive. His family drama and regrets way heavily on his shoulders.
An angsty, slow burn proper romance, filled with lovely characters, set in a village atmosphere . An irresistible, enjoyable read that will have readers rooting for Kate and Ben to finally have their chance for a warmhearted romance.
I enjoyed the details of a country village life, simple but so rewarding. The author’s rich descriptive writing helped me fall in love with the main Mc’s and sub-characters. A friends to enemies romance, along with complex family dynamics.
Recommend for readers who enjoy tender, proper romance’s with down to earth characters.

A Winter by the Sea By Julie Klassen second installment in her charming On Devonshire Shores Series
Julie Klassen continues her delightful story of the Summers sisters along with their mother, who have Sidmouth a beautiful seaside town located in East Devon. Their reduction in funds has motivated them to open Sea View, a guest house for borders.
Set during the winter of 1819, which should have been a slower time, sees a surprise guest to the community of Sidmouth. England’s Prince Edward, his wife, and daughter Victoria arrive and have taken up residence at Woolbrook Cottage. Some of Dukes party of are lodging at Sea View. One in particular is the Duke’s private secretary, James Thomson. Mr. Thomson is captivated by Emily Summers, who literally dreams to become a notable writer seems to be at a standstill. Also to Emily’s confusion Charles Parker has returned, adding a proper love triangle. The two other boarders at Sea View that have accompanied the duke, are Antoine Bernardi the Prince’s Pastry Chief and the royal Keeper of The Plate, Selwyn During.
The Summer Sisters family Saga is such a rewarding reading experience. I treasured my time returning to Sidmouth shores and charming Sea View guest house.
Julie Klassen has written another richly detailed historical fiction, along with characters I have come to love and care about. The storyline involves Emily with Sarah as a tie in. Emily is so far my favorite Summer Sister, and I completely invested in her life, but I also was there for Sarah’s part. The royal family and future-Queen Victoria added so much to book. I am excited to read future books in this warm hearted and completely engaging book series.

The book captures young children attention by using bold colors and wonderful graphics. Having known the tale of Sir M’orienta of the Knights of the Roundtable, made this book an added bonus. Garden of the Midnights by Hannah Linder is truly a lovely regency story.
Hanna Linders’s newest book is full of mystery and romance. The book follows William Kensley and Isabella. William has inherited a sustainable estate, Rosenleigh Manor. Readers will find the multi-layered mystery complex, along with just enough romance to keep them immersed. William’s faith is tested and his struggle feels real.
What immediately grabbed my attention in this story was the complexity of the characters. All characters were raw, honest, and flawed. This book was filled with compelling characters and I really enjoyed everything that each of them brought to this story throughout the novel. Hanna Linder’s incorporates faith based elements within her storyline that seems authentic, and adds so much to the overall storyline. Fellow readers will enjoy this moving historical fiction.

BOOK DESCRIPTION
A “wildly inventive and utterly addictive” (Julia Quinn) witchy reimagining of Pride and Prejudice, told from the perspective of the troublesome and—according to her—much-maligned youngest Bennet sister, Lydia.
In this exuberant retelling of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, Lydia Bennet puts pen to paper to relate the real events and aftermath of the classic story. Some facts are well known: Mrs. Bennet suffers from her nerves, Mr. Bennet suffers from Mrs. Bennet, and all five daughters suffer from an estate that is entailed only to male heirs.
But Lydia also suffers from entirely different concerns: her best-loved sister Kitty is really a barn cat; Wickham is every bit as wicked as the world believes him to be, but what else would one expect from a demon? And if Mr. Darcy is uptight about etiquette, that’s nothing compared to his feelings about magic. Most of all, Lydia has yet to learn that for a witch, promises have power . . .
Full of enchantment, intrigue, and boundless magic, The Scandalous Confessions of Lydia Bennet, Witch, has all the irreverent wit, strength, and romance of Pride and Prejudice—while offering a highly unexpected redemption for the wildest Bennet sister.

The Scandalous Confessions of Lydia Bennet, Witch by Melinda Taub, is the perfect twist on Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice.
Quote:
“It is a truth universally acknowledged that the seventh daughter of a seventh daughter must be a witch.”
A tantalizing story that features Miss Lydia Bennet as a witch, and her familiar, Kitty.
I throughly enjoyed this book that infuses witchcraft into the events in the beloved Jane Austen classic. New light is breathed into some of Jane’s underrated characters in the original book. The narration along with the superb character development kept me spellbound. From the first page I was hooked, and I found myself completely immersed, and was unable to set it aside. The magical elements in the storyline was inventive and engaging. So creative and original, I especially loved how it was written in a epistolary format. As a reader you feel that you are the receiver of a personal letter. This way the author is able to catapult the reader into the events of the book. It also gives an insight into the characters reasoning for their actions and feelings.
Bravo Melinda Taub, for writing a book that completely fascinated me and I couldn’t put down, along with not being able to stop thinking about it long after I finished reading it.
The Scandalous Confessions of Lydia Bennet, Witch it is quite the deliciously fun, compelling and an all consuming page-turner.

FOXGLOVE by Adalyn Grace
Chapter 9 Excerpt
They’d been riding for what felt like hours, journeying through twisting brambly roads and hills so precarious that both Signa and Blythe had to squint their eyes shut for fear of falling. Eventually, though, forest gave way to sprawling hills cast a burnished orange by the setting sun as the first sign of Wisteria Gardens emerged.
The palace sat upon acres of grass so ripe a green that it reminded Signa of illustrated pages from old fairy tales. It was situated on a vast mountainside, massive enough that Thorn Grove felt like little more than a farmer’s cottage in comparison.
Both Signa and Blythe pressed their faces to the windows as their carriage continued past iron gates strung with ivy and half green with lichen. Before them was a line of at least a dozen more carriages that rolled through a courtyard paved with pristine white stones. Grass nearly the color of Signa’s dress sprouted between them, so meticulously clipped that it made the walkway look ready for a life-size game of chess. It was upon those stones that the young women were dropped off, Signa’s heart fluttering in spite of itself as she stepped out of the carriage.
Wisteria Gardens was almost eerie in its beauty. The setting sun burned behind the palace, and the breeze was so gentle and lulling that Signa was almost tricked into believing the place was little more than the innocent countryside home of a prince. She looked to her right, where ripe green hills rolled down a mountainside full of grazing horses and bleating sheep. It was odd, though, how the sounds they made seemed to repeat themselves as if on a loop, and how there was no scent of them in the air. She smelled only the wisteria and looked past the courtyard to see the blooming trees that were the palace’s namesake, purple blossoms dangling from the branches and crawling up the side of the palace. There was even a wisteria-laden archway along the walking path, exquisitely maintained.
“This place is incredible.” Awe laced Blythe’s voice as she stepped forward and hooked her arm through Signa’s. “How strange that I’ve never been here before. I wasn’t aware it existed.”
Signa bit her tongue. How Fate intended to stroll into Celadon with a palace that had appeared out of thin air and call himself a prince, Signa hadn’t the faintest idea. And yet no one seemed to question it; not even Blythe, who pulled Signa along while Byron eased himself out of the next carriage and hurried to catch up. Blythe led them toward a towering marble fountain of a woman in a gown of ivy and flowers that split at her midthigh and twisted around her ankles. Water poured from the chalice she tipped precariously in her hands. Live lotus flowers and lily pads drifted at her feet.
There were other fountains, too. Smaller, but each of them as extravagant as the next and surrounded by short spiraling hedges or adorned by the most bizarre flowers that once again reminded Signa of a fairy tale—ancient and magical things that seemed out of place in the real world. All around them towered wisteria trees in full bloom, their rich petals dangling overhead like the most glorious canopy. Everyone was gaping in delight as they stretched their hands toward petals that were somehow always just out of reach. Yet as beautiful as it was, the courtyard dulled in comparison to the palace itself.
Never had Signa seen anything so massive. Where Thorn Grove was dark, Wisteria’s exterior was a spotless white, adorned with gilded carvings and more windows than Signa could count, each of them sporting marvelous stained glass. There was a long stone walkway leading up to the palace, with a pond on either side. Sculptures loomed from the water, some of them of gorgeous women or powerfully built men, while others were of beastly creatures that could come from only the wildest of imaginations. They appeared to be made from marble, some of them blanketed with moss and creeping fig, and each as excessive as the next. Signa stretched her fingers out to draw them across their damp stone, then turned toward Byron at the tapping sound of his walking stick coming up the path.
“I want you both on your best behavior,” he warned, fighting the same slack-jawed awe that everyone at Wisteria wore. “This prince could be our key to clearing Elijah’s name.”
Signa very much doubted that.
Blythe squeezed Signa’s arm, her footsteps hastening as they followed a trail of bustling crinoline toward the palace. There were whispers, too. A few of them sounded excited, but the majority were low and prickled at Signa’s skin. She turned to catch the eyes of too many strangers staring at them with dagger-sharp glances and spiteful rumors searing their tongues.
Though Signa was used to such behavior, it never stung any less, especially considering that she’d believed herself finally free of it. Blythe, too, kept her jaw tipped high and her expression flat, refusing to mark herself as prey before ravenous vultures. It was she who had warned Signa all those months ago of just how willing society was to pluck the skin from one’s bones to worsen any wound. And if there was one thing that Signa had learned about society, it was that people loved little more than watching those above them fall from grace.
“Come.” Signa steered her cousin forward. “I’d like to see the inside. I imagine it must be even more grand.”
Oh, how right she was. If the exterior of Wisteria was opulent, the interior was decadently lavish. Like the exterior, the walls inside Wisteria were bright and pristine, decorated with extravagant ivory wallpaper and gold flourishes. It would seem Fate had a taste for the color, for the mirrors and paintings were also plated in a matching gold.
“Oh, it’s magnificent!” Blythe craned her neck to gaze three stories up to the ceiling—which was painted a brilliant shade of red—and beheld the most intricate floral designs swirled throughout. Ahead were two grand staircases that met in the middle of the second story. They were covered in a thick red-and-gold rug, and the girls followed suit as guests climbed the stairs. They slowed their steps for Byron, and Signa used the time to take in every inch of the decor.
Strung along the walls were the wildest assortment of oil paintings, each one depicting strange and nonsensical things. One showcased a garden full of fairies that danced around overgrown mushrooms, while another portrayed two women dancing in a candlelit ballroom, their dresses igniting into flames behind them. Tucked into every corner were the most elaborately carved vases or sculptures. Most were tame, while others elicited blushes and concerned gasps, such as the statue of three people in the heat of passion, and another of a man brushing his hand along his lover’s cheek with more tenderness than Signa knew was possible to impart into a piece of stone.
Each painting conveyed a story with such richness that the art felt alive. She wasn’t convinced that, if she glanced away, they wouldn’t spring to life and continue their stories.
“His lordship is quite the collector,” said someone ahead, and Signa recognized the sharp voice as belonging to Diana Blackwater, a mousy and uncivilized girl who could often be found attached to the hip of Eliza Wakefield. She was perhaps one of the worst vultures Signa had met thus far, and Signa made sure to stay quiet, trying to keep from Diana’s view.
“A collector, indeed.” Byron’s scowl grew in severity with every piece of art they passed. “At the very least, they should have had these pieces temporarily moved. Avert your eyes, girls. You shouldn’t see such atrocities.”
Arms still linked, Blythe leaned toward her cousin and whispered, “It would seem he hasn’t the faintest idea what’s in half the books that end up on our nightstands.”
Signa pressed her lips together to keep from laughing. Though she ducked her head and pretended to follow Byron’s instructions, her eyes remained lifted to inspect every inch of the palace and its art.
As much as she hated to admit it, Wisteria was beautiful. Even so, there was a sense of oddness to the palace. A looming heaviness that permeated the air and had her wishing that Death could be at her side. Signa’s palms ached with the absence of his touch as she forced herself up every step, feeling as though she were treading water. When she squinted, a strange golden haze blanketed everything. Yet no one else said a word about it, and soon enough, they were at the top floor, in what was, regrettably, the most gorgeous ballroom she had ever seen.
Unlike the rest of the palace, the ballroom was not bright and crisp but made up of ornate panels backed with gold leaf. There was no part of the walls that went bare; all were either mirrored or featured gilded carvings of foxes climbing trees or rolling among the flowers, lit by sconces that set the room ablaze in warm, rich amber.
“What I wouldn’t give to live here.” Blythe’s words were breathy and wondrous. Everyone seemed to agree with her; the guests were all chattering and whispering, twirling around the room to take in its extravagance. While the rest of the palace was decorated with art, this exquisite room was the art.
Byron straightened beneath the amber glow and whispered to the girls, “Tonight is not the night to overindulge. Mingle, but keep your wits sharp and your tongues soft, understood?”
“Understood,” Blythe echoed dismissively. “But I daresay, Uncle, that Signa and I won’t ever manage to draw the prince’s eye with you looming over us. Surely we may walk about the room ourselves?”
Byron opened his mouth to speak, though his lips sealed as he scanned the crowd. Alerted at once, Signa tried to follow his gaze to who had drawn his attention, though there were far too many bodies to decipher which guest had caught his eye.
“Very well,” Byron huffed as he adjusted his cravat. “Be mindful about how you present yourselves. And do let me know if either of you finds this evening’s host.”
Signa could only hope that she would be the first to hunt Fate down, though it was going to be difficult, given that she needed to keep an eye on Byron, too.
Gently, she unlinked her arm from Blythe’s. “We’ll have a better chance at finding the prince if we split up. Will you manage?” The decision could very well come back to bite her, though Signa needed some space if she was going to tail Byron.
Blythe tossed her hair back with a sharp “Of course I will” and disappeared into the throng of guests. It wasn’t long until Signa jumped, feeling a hand on her shoulder.
“Miss Farrow?”
She bit down her groan, for the voice was the same grating one she’d heard while climbing the staircase.
“Miss Blackwater.” Signa attempted her most curt smile as she turned toward Diana, though it barely touched her cheeks. It was fortunate the room was so dark. “How lovely it is to see you.”
“Likewise.” There was a gleam in Diana’s eyes that made Signa feel as though she were a mouse, and Diana the hungriest feline. “I must admit that I didn’t expect you out so soon, given the scandal.”
It would seem they were getting right to the point, then. Very well. If there was one thing Signa had learned by then, it was that a person could not cower when targeted by a vulture, for such a scavenger would only continue to circle. To peck and wear its prey down until it was ripe for the feast.
Signa Farrow was many things, but she was not prey. Having no intention of letting Diana continue her pecking, Signa made herself tall and relied on a skill that every proper lady had been forced to utilize at one point in time or another, whether for the benefit of herself or a man whose ego she was expected to stroke: feigning ignorance.
“The scandal?” Signa pressed a hand to her chest. “I can only assume you’re referring to the tragedy that befell Lord Wakefield? The man was murdered in cold blood, Miss Blackwater. Heavens, I dare not reduce what happened to him as a mere scandal.” Oh, how good it felt to watch Diana’s cheeks flare crimson. “I’m glad that Mr. Hawthorne has been so willing to help with the investigation of such a tragedy.” Signa put a little sigh into her voice, quite proud of her performance. It was a shame that Blythe was not nearby to watch; it would have delighted her.
“Of course not.” Diana’s mouth was small and shrewd, and she held her lips together in a line so thin they looked almost nonexistent. “Though it does you no good to be associated with that family. You were doing so well for yourself with Everett, though I can’t imagine he’ll be interested in you now.”
Signa’s merciless smile remained unwavering. “How is Lord Wakefield?” she asked, referring to Everett. His new title was strange upon her lips, especially given the circumstances. “Ask Eliza.” Diana fluffed out a long white fan and waved it against herself as she nodded toward the throng. “It seems that despite the circumstances, she could not refuse an invitation from the prince.”
Signa followed Diana’s gaze. Sure enough, Eliza was not at home, mourning the loss of her uncle. She hadn’t even donned traditional mourning wear but was instead dressed in a beautiful lavender gown. Still, there was a pallor to Eliza’s skin and haunted shadows beneath her eyes as Signa surveyed her conversing with a small crowd expressing condolences. She was surprised to see that one of the men nearest to Eliza was Byron.
“What a time to be flirting one’s way through a ball.” Diana gave her fan a little flutter that didn’t hide her cruel smile. “I suppose she must not have loved her uncle as much as she wanted us to believe.”
There hadn’t been much in Signa’s old etiquette books about the particulars of dealing with royalty, especially when a familial relation had just passed. Though Eliza’s presence at the ball did seem unusual, Signa doubted that it was easy for someone to pass up a direct invitation from a prince. Still . . . It was remarkably odd, especially considering that she was chatting with Byron.
“Miss Wakefield is doing the best that she can.” It was another voice that spoke; one that normally would have soothed Signa but at that moment made her skin prickle—Charlotte Killinger. Signa’s oldest childhood friend and the only person who had seen her follow Percy into the garden the night they all believed he’d vanished from Thorn Grove. Signa had done her best to avoid Charlotte and her prying eyes, but that was certain to be more difficult with Fate forcing her back into the throes of society.
“We all are.” Signa hated that she tensed when Charlotte laid a hand on her shoulder. Hated that guilt welled up in her and threatened to leak like a rusted faucet.
She didn’t regret what she’d done or the choice she’d made to end Percy’s life in favor of Blythe’s. But she also didn’t want anyone else knowing about it. Not ever.
“How are you faring?” Charlotte asked, and Signa immediately wished her friend were less kind. That she was as sharp and guarded as she’d been when Signa had first arrived at Thorn Grove last autumn.
“We’re all eager to learn the truth,” Signa said by way of answer, despising the heaviness in her chest. “How is Everett?”
“Still grappling with the gravity of the situation, I think. He’s barely spoken a word since that night.”
Signa may not have been able to remember her parents, but she remembered her grandmother, whom she had loved deeply. She also remembered the pain of losing her, and never again wanted to relive the emotions she knew Everett was enduring.
“The duke’s killer will be found.” Signa filled her voice with such confidence that both Charlotte and Diana straightened as if reproached. Signa didn’t care, for it was the only way to convince herself. She had found a murderer before. Now, she only needed to do it once more. Watching Byron fill out Eliza’s dance card, Signa wondered if Elijah had already set her on the right path.

Adalyn Grace is a New York Times bestselling author of All the Stars and Teeth, which was named “2020’s biggest YA fantasy” by Entertainment Weekly.
Prior to becoming an author, Adalyn spent four years working in live theatre, acted as the managing editor of a nonprofit newspaper, and studied storytelling as an intern on Nickelodeon Animation’s popular series The Legend of Korra.
Local to San Diego, Adalyn spends her non-writing days by watching too much anime, and by playing video games with her dorky dog.
A modern masterpiece, this is a classic Gothic thriller-fantasy from New York Times bestselling author Erin A. Craig, about doomed love, menacing ambition, and the ghosts that haunt us forever.
In a manor by the sea, one sister is still cursed.
Despite dreams of adventures far beyond the Salann shores, seventeen-year-old Verity Thaumas has remained at her family’s estate, Highmoor, with her older sister Camille, while their sisters have scattered across Arcannia.
When their sister Mercy sends word that the Duchess of Bloem—wife of a celebrated botanist—is interested in having Verity paint a portrait of her son, Alexander, Verity jumps at the chance, but Camille won’t allow it. Forced to reveal the secret she’s kept for years, Camille tells Verity the truth one day: Verity is still seeing ghosts, she just doesn’t know it.
Stunned, Verity flees Highmoor that night and—with nowhere else to turn—makes her way to Bloem. At first, she is captivated by the lush, luxurious landscape and is quickly drawn to charming, witty, and impossibly handsome Alexander Laurent. And soon, to her surprise, a romance . . . blossoms.
But it’s not long before Verity is plagued with nightmares, and the darker side of Bloem begins to show through its sickly-sweet façade. . . .
If you haven’t read #houseofsaltandsorrows I highly recommend it! Erin A. Craig latest installment is a breathtaking gothic expansion on the much loved first book.
House of Roots and Ruin lived up to all my expectations with its captivating storyline and with lush detailed world building. It’s definitely a twisty read, one that once you start you absolutely cannot put down.
The story starts off in an intentionally slow, in an ambiguous way as the author sets the perfect tone. Now this is the genius of Erin A. Craig, who deliberately gives you each piece of the puzzle, chapter by chapter. A hauntingly twisty read here that had me pretty much-questioning everything that was happening within the pages of this book. The clever way that the details were revealed to the reader was excellent.
Craig’s writing is stellar, as we follow the books heroine the youngest of the twelve sisters, seventeen-year-old Verity Thaumas. Living a reclusive and sheltered existence with older sister Camille and her family, at their family estate of Highmoor.
When chance invitation through her other sister Mercy arrives in a letter, by the Duchess of Bloem. The Dutchess is intrigued by Varity’s artistic talents and offers her a commission to draw a portrait of her son Alex, who is wheelchair bond after a tragic childhood accident. In defiance of Camille’s stern warning not to except the job, she does so anyways. Only to find out the real reason she has been sequestered from people, it’s because she has the ability to see ghosts. Her ability is so strong she cannot tell ghost from the living.
Unperturbed she is ready to take her life for once in her own hands and leaves her family’s estate and travels beyond the Salann shores in the middle of the night.
Her destination is Bloem’s gothic mansion Chauntilalei. Upon arrival she meets the odd family and the Alex, who is the subject of her next portrait.
Craig has exceeded in her world building, and the twisty turns of this book will definitely keep you on the edge of your seat. I enjoyed Varity as the main MC, and I thought she was fleshed out and well developed. The house itself is a character in its own right. Ominous and unsettling, the rich imagery and wonderful details descriptions of the flowers and setting was stunning. A feeling of something just not right, follows reader as the storyline unfolds.

A Noble Cunning: The Countess and the Tower by Patricia Bernstein
Publication Date: March 7, 2023 History Through Fiction LLC
Genre: Historical Fiction/Christian
A thrilling tale, based on a true story, of one woman’s tremendous courage and incomparable wit in trying to rescue her husband from the Tower of London the night before he is to be executed.
The heroine of A Noble Cunning, Bethan Glentaggart, Countess of Clarencefield, a persecuted Catholic noblewoman, is determined to try every possible means of saving her husband’s life, with the help of a group of devoted women friends.
Amid the turbulence of the 1715 Rebellion against England’s first German king George I, Bethan faces down a mob attack on her home, travels alone from the Scottish Lowlands to London through one of the worst snowstorms in many years, and confronts a cruel king before his court to plead for mercy for her husband Gavin. As a last resort, Bethan and her friends must devise and put in motion a devilishly complex scheme featuring multiple disguises and even the judicious use of poison to try to free Gavin.
Though rich with historical gossip and pageantry, Bethan’s story also demonstrates the damage that politics and religious fanaticism can inflict on the lives of individuals.
A Noble Cunning: The Countess and the Tower by Patricia Bernstein
Scotland 1710, during the Jacobite uprising, we follow a Catholic noblewoman Countess of Clarencefield, Bethan Glentaggart. Living in the Scottish lowland with her husband and children, when Queen Anne passes away. The throne is then passed to the protestant George of Hanover, of Germany. This ignites the Jacobite uprising, and Bethan’s husband takes a stand alongside those against the new King. When Bethan husband is captured and taken to the Tower of London waiting to be executed for treasonous activity, she hatches a risky complex plan to free her beloved husband.
A meticulously researched historical fiction that features a strong willed, and resilient female MC, who will stop at nothing to free her husband. Rich in period details, along with historical imagery, I found myself completely immersed. Definitely an riveting book that felt drawn into the lives of the characters as they struggle during this turbulent time in Scottish-English History.
Praise
“A riveting tale of one woman’s courage and determination! Bernstein has crafted a dazzling heroine in Bethan Glentaggart. After enduring the religious fanaticism of Protestants, the vain heroics of Scottish lords, and the insipid insecurities of King George I, Bethan must devise and carry out a daring plan to rescue her husband from the Tower of London before his execution for treason. Her forceful personality makes A Noble Cunning a gripping page-turner!”
– David Blixt, author of What Girls Are Good For and Her Majesty’s Will
“I love a good historical novel about women with brains, heart, and courage. In A Noble Cunning, Patricia Bernstein’s finely-spun yarn of Jacobite sympathizer Countess of Clarencefield-inspired by the true adventures of Winifred Maxwell, Countess of Nithsdale-the author brings both the Scottish Lowlands and Hanoverian London vividly to life with a keen eye for period detail and a heart-stopping denouement.”
– Leslie Carroll, author of Notorious Royal Marriages
“This is a riveting and largely unknown story, based on true events, about a remarkable woman’s strength, love and courage against formidable odds. Set amidst English and Scottish hostilities in the early 1700s, and the terrible religious persecution of the period, Patricia Bernstein brings the countess’s extraordinary tale to dramatic life.”
– Karen Brooks, International Best-selling Author of The Good Wife of Bath and The Locksmith’s Daughter
“Wow! This spellbinding historical novel captures the religious aspects of an intriguing and true story. I was especially taken by the extraordinary Countess, the unsung Catholic heroine in a time of unrelenting persecution of Catholics in England and Scotland. Her dedication to her Catholic faith and especially to the Virgin Mary, her unstoppable courage, unimaginable cunning, and unflappable determination exceeded most women of her day. I also loved that Bethan Glentaggart, based on the true story of Winifred Maxwell, performs her audacious feat with the help of a group of devoted and courageous women friends. Patricia Bernstein adds dramatic flair and suspense that capture you to the very end. It is a must-read.”
– Sister Jane Meyer, O.P., Former Head of St. Agnes Academy, Houston, an all-girl secondary school
“Patricia Bernstein’s sumptuously detailed historical novel, A Noble Cunning: The Countess and the Tower, is set in 18th century Scotland and is based on the remarkable true story of a fiercely courageous woman fighting tirelessly against political and religious tyranny to save her husband, imprisoned and condemned to die in the Tower of London.”
– Kathleen Kent, NY Times Bestselling author of The Heretic’s Daughter
“In A Noble Cunning, Patricia Bernstein paints a compelling and dramatic portrait of Scotland in the perilous time of the 1715 Jacobite Rebellion, seen through the eyes of the courageous Bethan Carlisle Glentaggart, Countess of a Clarencefield, a Catholic noblewoman who defies danger to undertake an ingenious plot to save her husband from a traitor’s terrible death. Fans of historical fiction will find much to enjoy in this immersive tale of adventure, rich with period detail.”
– Gillian Bagwell, author of The September Queen

For fans of The Witcher and Brave, this fantasy romance, featuring a fierce heroine and a druid with Golden Retriever energy, is both steamy and swoon worthy!
I’m the Princess of Solaria, a realm full of beasts that could make the Devil cower. Except that title means nothing, because I’ll be dead by the week’s end.
Like my sisters before me, the moment I turned twenty-three, my father announced a gauntlet. A fight to the death, where the most ruthless of the land could try to claim me as their bride.
Desperate, I entered the gauntlet and fought for my own hand. Only the mad king is a twisted monster who loves to play tricks, and now instead of wearing a crown, I’m a prisoner, set to be executed for defying the king’s tradition.
I start to fear that things can’t get any worse, but I’m quickly proven wrong when I’m shoved into a cage with a man I’ve never met before. Who knows why he’s in chains… but if he can lend me a hand, we might have a chance to escape this wicked fate.
Trigger Warnings: Gore, steamy scenes intended for those 18+ years of age, monsters, animalistic behavior, blood, murder, dismemberment, and violence.
Amanda Aggie has written a stellar fantasy, with an incredible storyline.
A rip roaring Fantasy, with a fast paced plot. Vivid imagery and detailed world building made for a enjoyable reading experience. The characters are some of the best I have read so far. I have to say Eva one of my favorite FMC of this year. Strong and likable, I really enjoyed her relationship with her inner Beast.

He is represented by Eva Scalzo of Speilburg Literary. His debut “The Alchemy of Moonlight” is set to be published from Page Street Kids in Spring 2023.
The suspenseful sequel to The Murder of Mr. Wickham, which sees Jonathan Darcy and Juliet Tilney reunited, and with another mystery to solve: the dreadful poisoning of the scoundrel Willoughby’s new wife.
Catherine and Henry Tilney of Northanger Abbey are not entirely pleased to be sending their eligible young daughter Juliet out into the world again: the last house party she attended, at the home of the Knightleys, involved a murder—which Juliet helped solve. Particularly concerning is that she intends to visit her new friend Marianne Brandon, who’s returned home to Devonshire shrouded in fresh scandal—made more potent by the news that her former suitor, the rakish Mr. Willoughby, intends to take up residence at his local estate with his new bride.
Elizabeth and Fitzwilliam Darcy of Pemberley are thrilled that their eldest son, Jonathan—who, like his father, has not always been the most socially adept—has been invited to stay with his former schoolmate, John Willoughby. Jonathan himself is decidedly less taken with the notion of having to spend extended time under the roof of his old bully, but that all changes when he finds himself reunited with his fellow amateur sleuth, the radiant Miss Tilney. And when shortly thereafter, Willoughby’s new wife—whom he married for her fortune—dies horribly at the party meant to welcome her to town.
With rumors flying and Marianne—known to be both unstable and previously jilted by the dead woman’s newly made widower—under increased suspicion, Jonathan and Juliet must team up once more to uncover the murderer. But as they collect clues and close in on suspects, eerie incidents suggest that the killer may strike again, and that the pair are in far graver danger than they or their families could imagine.

A Delightful Austenesque Style, Regency Era Whodunnit
The Late Mrs. Willoughby is the second installment in Mr. Darcy & Miss Tilney Mystery Book Series, by the author Claudia Gray.
Claudia Gray once again does an excellent job of transporting readers back to the world of Sense & Sensibility. Juliet and Jonathan find themselves using their clever amateur sleuths capabilities to solve another murder mystery.
While attending a house party to welcome John Willoughby, new bride, disaster unfolds. Jonathan was a little reluctant to the party at John Willoughby estate, because of his past school days trauma. His knowing that a certain lady, a Miss Tilney will be there is all the motivation that he needs. Together Mr. Darcy and Miss Tilney work together to solve the murder, as their relationship starts to blossom into a proper romance.
After enjoying the first book in this cozy historical mystery series, I was overjoyed to once again accompany Mr. Darcy and Miss Tilney on another investigation. Full of rich imagery and vibrant details, the author grabs your attention from start to finish. This wonderful charter driven novel, will satisfy readers who enjoy books inspired by the people in Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility book. The author stays true to the period and her seamless narration helps to keep readers on their toes as the twists of the investigation brings our two MC’s close to danger. The ending will have you excited for the next book, and I am anxiously waiting for its release.

My publisher invited me to attend an all-expenses paid writing retreat at the posh new Hartfield Regency Resort in Loveland, Colorado. Carole isn’t nice like that—there must be a catch.
There is. His name is Ryder Hawk, the outlaw leader of the all-male Western writers who work for the same publishing company. He thinks he’s agreed to attend an all-expenses-paid week at a dude ranch.
Yeah, no. Carole has other ideas. She wants to break into the cowboy romance market. If I want to renew my writing contract, I have to do more than put up with Ryder and his gang of cowboy cronies for a week. We have to write together.
The problem is, Ryder and I have a history.
And it’s more like war than peace.
PRAISE FOR REGENCY THERAPY
• “Fun, sweet, slow burn. I was rooting for them!”— Liselotte, Goodreads
• 5 STARS “The romantic chemistry was off the charts with these two and the flirting was on another level!”— Ashley Johnson, Bringing Up Books

We follow Lucy, a dedicated Regency styled author who is on her way to a writer’s retreat at Hartfield Regency Resort. When she bumps into a handsome cowboy at the airport who just happens to be boarding the same plane. They exchange a little flirtatious dialogue, without each other really knowing who each other are.
The writers retreat is usually a Regency author’s retreat, but Lucy’s publisher has decided to add male authors, who write western novels to be included in the mix. Lucy’s books are a steady sweet second right behind western author Ryder Hawk, on the bestseller list. Which tends to baffle Lucy as she is definitely proud of her book genre settings and subject matter. All in all she knows she is a better author than any western writer.
Fireworks ignite in this delightful, spunky contemporary book, with nods to Jane Austen. The authors writing flows effortlessly, along with the relatable characters. Lucy is a snarky woman who I just loved, and Ryder was a swoon worthy counterpart. A book that will keep a smile on your face all the way through, because of the delightful banter between Lucy and Ryder.
I am excited to see what’s in store in the next book in this series.

REVIEW
Thank you for joining me today on my blog as I Review The Vanishing at Castle Moreau by Jaime Jo Wright, on tour with Austen Prose tours!
The Vanishing at Castle Moreau By Jaime Jo Wright, delights readers with its multi narrations and a heavy dose of gothic suspense. Once you start this book you won’t want to stop. It kept me completely immersed into the wee hours of the night.
1870 Orphaned Daisy Francois finally escapes her foster parents. She takes a position at a Midwest castle in Wisconsin. Set out to leave her traumatic past behind she finds herself faced with more terror. When the villagers devolve about the happenings of the woman near by, Daisy Francois realizes their is more to the eccentric reclusive mistress of the castle, who writes tales of suspense and murder. She decides to stay on because of her friendship with the mistress’s grandson.
Present Day Cleo Clemmons, is running from her family and the law. She takes a job hoping to stay in the shadows under the radar the debilitated Castle Moreau. Her job is to help Ora’s granddaughter Virgie deal with her hoarding problem. Cleo starts to experience strange unusual experiences.
As both women past and present experience eerie unsettling moments it would seem that Moreau-Tremblays are definitely hiding something. An excellent unputdownable read, with just enough spine tingling suspense mixed into a heartfelt message of regret and forgiveness. The authors seamless narration weaves the stories together and the twist are engaging. The perfect amount romance, along with a meaningful message adds so much to this engaging storyline.

“Wright (The Souls of Lost Lake) captivates with a thrilling tale of two women who get caught up in the secrets of a Wisconsin castle…The twisting, fast-moving plot is loaded with secrets, and the characters remain morally ambiguous until the end. Readers won’t want to put this down.”— Publisher’s Weekly
“Wright (The Premonition at Withers Farm) pens another delightfully creepy tale where nothing is quite as it seems and characters seek freedom from nightmares both real and imagined.”— Library Journal
“Jaime Jo Wright never disappoints, and The Vanishing at Castle Moreau is no exception. With real, flawed characters who grapple with real-life struggles, this gripping suspense novel will draw readers in from the very first page. Good luck putting it down. I couldn’t.”— Lynette Eason, bestselling author of the Extreme Measures series

A propulsive, electrifying and enraging retelling of the life ofGreek goddess Hekate, child of war turned all-powerful goddess of witchcraft and necromancy, by internationally bestselling poet Nikita Gill.
Born into a world on fire, Godling Hekate has never known safety. After her parents are on the losing side of the war between the ruling Titans and new Olympian Gods, Hekate is taken by her mother Asteria to the Underworld, where Styx and Hades agree to raise her. Meanwhile, Asteria is pursued across the world by Zeus and Poseidon and, to escape their clutches, transforms herself into an island in a stormy sea.
Orphaned and alone, Hekate grows up amongst the horrors and beauties of the Underworld, desperate to find her divine purpose and a sense of belonging in the land of the dead.
When Hekate finally uncovers her powers and ascends to Goddess status, she realises that even the most powerful Olympians are terrified of her. But when immortal war breaks out again, threatening to destroy everything from Mount Olympus to the Underworld itself, the Goddess of witchcraft and necromancy is the only one who can bring the deadly conflict to an end. . .
ADVANCE PRAISE FOR HEKATE ‘In Hekate, we are plunged into a vivid and imaginatively wrought divine world that is monstrous, magical and beautiful through the perspective of a bewildered child of war who grows up to understand and embrace her power. It’s a timely and achingly resonant reflection on conflict, fear and the unbreakable bonds of family conveyed in exquisite, evocative poetry.’ – Jennifer Saint, author of Ariadne
‘In a wholly original, incandescent take on the myth of Hekate, Nikita Gill captures the beauty, brutality and otherworldly strangeness of the ancient world like no other writer. This beautifully imagined tale of a Refugee Goddess’s. . . quest to find her destiny among a kingdom of outcasts is both deeply moving and absolutely captivating. . . This poem is pure magic.’ – Elodie Harper, bestselling author of The Wolf Den trilogy
Hekate by Nikita Gill is the first exciting installment in the Goddesses of the Underworld series. Nikita Gill’s Hekate is a breathtakingly poetic retelling that finally gives this complex goddess the voice she deserves. With stunning lyrical prose, Gill brings to life a story rich with loss, betrayal, and the fierce struggle for identity amid the brutal clash between Olympians and the elder gods. At its heart, this is a tale of resilience—a woman navigating chaos to claim her power and find her own sanctuary.
The vivid portrayal of the underworld and its haunting inhabitants—especially Hekate, Thanatos, and Charon—pulled me deep into the shadows and mysteries of this dark realm. Themes of motherhood, survival, and transformation resonate powerfully throughout, grounding mythic grandeur with emotional truth.
Hekate has quickly settled into a top spot on my mythology retelling shelf this year. It’s a beautifully crafted, haunting, and unforgettable read for anyone who loves poetic storytelling, mythology with heart, and stories of women rising beyond fear to reclaim their strength.
