SYNOPSIS

The Myrtle Wand, a retelling and a continuation of the classic ballet Giselle, restores original story elements to transform a tale of blighted romances and betrayals into a quest for redemption and restorative love.

Princess Bathilde de Sevreau, her school friend Myrte, and the peasant girl Giselle have heard the legend of the vilis, ghostly maidens who rise from their graves by night to roam the forest, seeking revenge on faithless lovers. Each will fear being ensnared by that spectral sisterhood…

Bathilde, destined for a marriage of convenience with Albin, Duc de Rozel, leaves her ancestral château for the Sun King’s sophisticated and scandalous court. As participants in royal ceremonies and entertainments, the princess and the soldier gradually recognize their deep feelings for each other, as well as mutual hopes for a happy and satisfying union. But the tragic consequences of Albin’s brief masquerade as a commoner and the amorous Louis XIV’s quest for a mistress divide the betrothed couple. Together and separately, they must overcome conflicting duties and unexpected dangers to determine their fate.

Thanks to @authormargaretporter my absolutely gorgeous book.

A stunning historical novel set in 17th-century France, during the early reign of King Louis XIV, the Sun King.

Margaret Porte’s riveting details and exceptional characterization catapult readers into lush 17th-century France, during the early reign of King Louis XIV, the Sun King.

A creative continuation tale of the famous classical ballet, Giselle. The author Margaret Porter, seamless prose, and lush world building will captivate you. From start to finish I was completely immersed within the books pages.

Following the death of her mother, Princess Bathilde de Sevreau, is sent to the convent school the Ursulines in Niort, France. Being very young Bathilde is taken under the wing by an older student, Myrte Vernier. The two girls form a close endearing sisterly bond, as the years pass. Both knowing that their future will be decided for them with arranged marriages.

Princess Bathilde de Sevreau is able to take holidays away from the covent with her farther to visit the Queen, there she meets King Louis and his vivacious brother Phillipe. Setting a course for Bathilde future, as she will need her wits about her as she navigates through intrigue in the decadent Sun King’s court.

Margaret Porter propulsive storyline, offering both drama and historical authenticity to appeal to anyone interested in or adores historical fiction. I was captivated from page one. I found this story to be entertaining, well thought out, perfectly paced, and exciting to read.

A beautiful historical fiction with a touch of magical realism. Readers will fall in love with the characters as they face heartache, betrayal and finally redemption.
