Book two of NOLA Knights, the heart-stoppingly sexy spin-off series by Men of Haven author Rhenna Morgan

As an avtoritet for the most powerful crime syndicate in New Orleans, Kir Vasilek doesn’t act without purpose, doesn’t speak without thought and never, ever loses his cool. The lives of his brothers, his family, depend on it. But then Cassie McClintock strolls back into his life, and staying cool is next to impossible. Cassie was the one who got away—and Kir is willing to break all his own rules to keep it from happening ever again.

It’s one thing to report on the Russian mafia; it’s quite another to sleep with one of them, especially one as dangerous, and as sinfully sexy, as Kir Vasilek. Even though the information he once provided helped make her career—and the memory of his touch still keeps her up at night—Cassie knows too much about his world to go down that path.

But when Kir reaches out for help after a rival family comes for one of his own, Cassie doesn’t want to say no, either to investigating a gruesome murder or to the heat that pulls her right back into his arms…and his heart. Taming Kir—and helping to save the family she’s come to call her own—is not the story she thought she’d write, but it’s the one she’s determined will get a happy ending.

Hers to Tame is the highly anticipated follow-up to His to Defend. And don’t miss Roman’s story in Mine to Keep, coming soon from Rhenna Morgan and Carina Press.

Hers to Tame

NOLA Knights #2

by Rhenna Morgan

4 stars

M/F Romance (mafia)

Hers to Tame is book two in the NOLA Knights series by Rhenna Morgan.

Is the second story in the spin-off series from Rhenna Morgan’s Men of Haven books. This book takes off right from the ending of the first book. I highly recommend that you start with His to Defend, which tells Sergei and Evette’s story.

Cassie is an beautiful, very determined lady intelligent, who faces trouble with and is independently resilient. Cassie, is a g 25 year old, reporting on an investigation of a series of events in the dark underworld, of Good Ole Nola. This has her her back into the direct line of the very Alph Kir Vasilek. Kir is one smoking hot guy….swoon worthy in every way. Cassie McClintock, knows he can’t stop thinking of her. Even though she has ghosted him.

Kir Vasilek, has been raised in the Russian mob, a member of Sergei’s family residing in the USA, Fiercely devolved to his family also puts in some unscrupulous dark dealings. He is quite, with old fashioned manners, I have weakness for bad-boy, mafia-type guys…So he definitely grabbed my attention. The Russian accent alone will stop me in my tracks… He is also charismatic, possessive, and when these Russian Guys make up there minds you have no choice but fall under their hypnotic eyes.

“It was bad enough that he had a way with words, but paired with his accent and the sexy rumble of his voice, physical foreplay was a bonus more than a necessity.”

“I am an honorable man, and—no matter my line of work or present affiliations—you will always be safe within my care”

A thrilling paced….passionately hot, mystery that focuses on family and ultimately loyalty. Well developed characters, I especially enjoyed Cassie’s aunt who adds some of the best comic timing with her banter, whit and humor.

It was brilliantly executed written storyline, that grab and hold your attention from start to finish.

I am definitely looking forward to what happens with Roman and Bonnie’s story, in the next installment.

Thank you so much to Rhenna Morgan, Harlequin and NetGalley for an advanced copy of the book to read and review.

The Vangarde rebels believe, that for a peaceful revolution to take place, their charismatic leader, Citizen Rousseau, needs to be freed.

The Syfy world building is expanded more, with vibrant details in this visionary epic fantasy. Both authors, Brody and Rendell have created incredible narration and melding their writing styles. This highly original riveting storyline kept me fully enthralled, within its pages. I enjoyed the extensive main protagonist character development. The sub-characters are also notable and add more layers to the plotline. Romance is not at the forefront, as the cast maneuvers through gripping disasters and hard hitting betrayals.

A enjoyable creative epic Syfy Fantasy with an exceptional cliffhanger ending, that will have gasping and wanting more.

From the New York Times bestselling author RaeAnne Thayne comes a brand-new novel for fans of Debbie Macomber and Susan Wiggs. RaeAnne Thayne tells the story of an emotional homecoming that brings hope and healing to three generations of women.

The life Olivia Harper always dreamed of isn’t so dreamy these days. The 16-hour work days are unfulfilling and so are things with her on-again, off-again boyfriend. But when she hears that her estranged mother, Juliet, has been seriously injured in a car accident, Liv has no choice but to pack up her life and head home to beautiful Cape Sanctuary on the Northern California coast.

It’s just for a few months—that’s what Liv keeps telling herself. But the closer she gets to Cape Sanctuary, the painful memories start flooding back: Natalie, her vibrant, passionate older sister who downward-spiraled into addiction. The fights with her mother who enabled her sister at every turn. The overdose that took Natalie, leaving her now-teenaged daughter, Caitlin, an orphan.

As Liv tries to balance her own needs with those of her injured mother and an obstinate, resentful fifteen-year-old, it becomes clear that all three Harper women have been keeping heartbreaking secrets from one another. And as those secrets are revealed, Liv, Juliet, and Caitlin will see that it’s never too late—or too early—to heal family wounds and find forgiveness.

This book was received from the Author, and Publisher, in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.

The Sea Glass Cottage is a complex, memorable story about family, and secrets. Where healing and forgiveness is depicted in a thought provoking storyline.

Olivia Harper is returning Cape Sanctuary after her mother falls from a ladder and sustaining serious injuries. Juliet Harper is an incredible independent woman, but her fall combined with surgery will ultimately have her out of commission for a couple of months. The family business and care of her fifteen-year-old granddaughter, Caitlin will fall on her returning daughter a Olivia. Juliet is hoping to repair past hurt and a deep void between herself and her Olivia during her recovery period.

A emotional journey of healing and strength ones a wonderfully engaging storyline that captures heartwarming struggles of three woman. A charming tale that unfolds within these creative pages. Well developed characters, the reader is captivated by alternating point-of-views between Juliet, Olivia, Caitlin and Cooper Vance.

A charming contemporary book, full of emotional drama of three generations of women, who struggle with their pasts and family relationships.

Olivia

Olivia shoved her hands into her pockets against the damp Seattle afternoon. Nothing would take the chill from her bones, though. She knew that. Even five days of sick leave, huddling in her bed and mindlessly bingeing on cooking shows hadn’t done anything but make her crave cake.

She couldn’t hide away in her apartment forever. Eventually she was going to have to reenter life and go back to work, which was why she stood outside this coffee shop in a typical spring drizzle with her heart pounding and her stomach in knots.

This was stupid. The odds of anything like that happening to her again were ridiculously small. She couldn’t let one man battling mental illness and drug abuse control the rest of her life.

She could do this.

She reached out to pull the door open, but before she could make contact with the metal handle, her cell phone chimed from her pocket.

She knew instantly from the ringtone it was her best friend from high school, who still lived in Cape Sanctuary with her three children.

Talking to Melody was more important than testing her resolve by going into the Kozy Kitchen right now, she told herself. She answered the call, already heading back across the street to her own apartment.

“Mel,” she answered, her voice slightly breathless from the adrenaline still pumping through her and from the stairs she was racing up two at a time. “I’m so glad you called.”

Glad didn’t come close to covering the extent of her relief. She really hadn’t wanted to go into that coffee shop. Not yet. Why should she make herself? She had coffee at home and could have groceries delivered when she needed them.

“You know why I’m calling, then?” Melody asked, a strange note in her voice.

“I know it’s amazing to hear from you. You’ve been on my mind.”

She was not only a coward but a lousy friend. She hadn’t checked in with Melody in a few weeks, despite knowing her friend was going through a life upheaval far worse than witnessing an attack on someone else.

As she unlocked her apartment, the cutest rescue dog in the world, a tiny, fluffy cross between a Chihuahua and a miniature poodle, gyrated with joy at the sight of her.

Yet another reason she didn’t have to leave. If she needed love and attention, she only had to call her dog and Otis would come running.

She scooped him up and let him lick her face, already feeling some of her anxiety calm.

“I was thinking how great it would be if you and the boys could come up and stay with me for a few days when school gets out for the summer,” she said now to Melody. “We could take the boys to the Space Needle, maybe hop the ferry up to the San Juans and go whale watching. They would love it. What do you think?”

The words seemed to be spilling out of her, too fast. She was babbling, a weird combination of relief that she hadn’t had to face that coffee shop and guilt that she had been wrapped up so tightly with her own life that she hadn’t reached out to a friend in need.

“My apartment isn’t very big,” she went on without waiting for an answer. “But I have an extra bedroom and can pick up some air beds for the boys. They’ve got some really comfortable ones these days. I’ve got a friend who says she stayed on one at her sister’s house in Tacoma and slept better than she does on her regular mattress. I’ve still got my car, though I hardly drive it in the city, and the boys would love to meet Otis. Maybe we could even drive to Olympic National Park, if you wanted.”

“Liv. Stop.” Melody cut her off. “Though that all sounds amazing and I’m sure the boys would love it, we can talk about that later. You have no idea why I called, do you?”

“I… Why did you call?”

Melody was silent for a few seconds. “I’m afraid there’s been an accident,” she finally said.

The breath ran out of Olivia like somebody had popped one of those air mattresses with a bread knife.

“Oh no. Is it one of your boys?” Oh please, she prayed. Don’t let it be one of the boys.

Melody had been through enough over the past three months, since her jerkhole husband ran off with one of his high school students.

“No, honey. It’s not my family. It’s yours.”

Her words seemed to come from far away and it took a long time for them to pierce through.

No. Impossible.

Fear rushed back in, swamping her like a fast-moving tide. She sank blindly onto the sofa.

“Is it Caitlin?”

“It’s not your niece. Stop throwing out guesses and just let me tell you. It’s your mom. Before you freak out, let me just say, first of all, she’s okay, from what I understand. I don’t have all the details but I do know she’s in the hospital, but she’s okay. It could have been much worse.”

Her mom. Olivia tried to picture Juliet lying in a hospital bed and couldn’t quite do it. Juliet Harper didn’t have time to be in a hospital bed. She was always hurrying somewhere, either next door to Sea Glass Cottage to the garden center the Harper family had run in Cape Sanctuary for generations or down the hill to town to help a friend or to one of Caitlin’s school events.

“What happened?”

“She had a bad fall and suffered a concussion and I think some broken bones.”

Olivia’s stomach twisted. A concussion. Broken bones. Oh man. “Fell where? Off one of the cliffs near the garden center?”

“I’m sorry. I don’t know all the details yet. This just happened this morning and it’s still early for the gossip to make all the rounds around town. I assumed you already knew. That Caitlin or someone would have called you. I was only checking in to see how I can help.”

This morning. She glanced at her watch. Her mother had been in an accident hours earlier and Olivia was just finding out about it now, in late afternoon.

Someone should have told her—if not Juliet herself, then, as Melody said, at least Caitlin.

Given their recent history, it wasn’t particularly surprising that her niece, raised by Olivia’s mother since she was a baby, hadn’t bothered to call. Olivia wasn’t Caitlin’s favorite person right now. These days, during Olivia’s regular video chats with her mother, Caitlin never popped in to say hi anymore. At fifteen, Caitlin was abrasive and moody and didn’t seem to like Olivia much, for reasons she didn’t quite understand.

“I’m sure someone tried to reach me but my phone has been having trouble,” she lied. Her phone never had trouble. She made sure it was always in working order, since so much of her freelance business depended on her clients being able to reach her and on her being able to Tweet or post something on the fly.

“I’m glad I checked in, then.”

“Same here. Thank you.”

Several bones broken and a long recovery. Oh dear. That would be tough on Juliet, especially this time of year when the garden center always saw peak business.

“Thank you for telling me. Is she in the hospital there in Cape Sanctuary or was she taken to one of the bigger cities?”

“I’m not sure. I can call around for you, if you want.”

“I’ll find out. You have enough to worry about.”

“Keep me posted. I’m worried about her. She’s a pretty great lady, that mom of yours.”

Olivia shifted, uncomfortable as she always was when others spoke about her mother to her. Everyone loved her, with good reason. Juliet was warm, gracious, kind to just about everyone in their beachside community of Cape Sanctuary.

Which made Olivia’s own awkward, tangled relationship with her mother even harder to comprehend.

“Will you be able to come home for a few days?”

Home. How could she go home when she couldn’t even walk into the coffee shop across the street?

“I don’t know. I’ll have to see what’s going on there.”

How could she possibly travel all the way to Northern California? A complicated mix of emotions seemed to lodge like a tangled ball of yarn in her chest whenever she thought about her hometown, which she loved and hated in equal measures.

The town held so much guilt and pain and sorrow. Her father was buried there and so was her sister. Each room in Sea Glass Cottage stirred like the swirl of dust motes with memories of happier times.

Olivia hadn’t been back in more than a year. She kept meaning to make a trip but something else always seemed to come up. She usually went for the holidays at least, but the previous year she’d backed out of even that after work obligations kept her in Seattle until Christmas Eve and a storm had made last-minute travel difficult. She had spent the holiday with friends instead of with her mother and Caitlin and had felt guilty that she had enjoyed it much more than the previous few when she had gone home.

She couldn’t avoid it now, though. A trip back to Cape Sanctuary was long overdue, especially if her mother needed her.

Death and life are in the power of the tongue.

England 1586

Alyce Bradley has few choices when her father decides it is time she marry as many refuse to see her as other than the girl she once was–unruly, outspoken and close to her grandmother, a woman suspected of witchcraft.

Thomas Granville, an ambitious privateer, inspires fierce loyalty in those close to him and hatred in those he has crossed. Beyond a large dowry, he is seeking a virtuous and dutiful wife. Neither he nor Alyce expect more from marriage than mutual courtesy and respect.

As the King of Spain launches his great armada and England braces for invasion, Alyce must confront closer dangers from both her own and Thomas’s past, threats that could not only destroy her hopes of love and happiness but her life. And Thomas is powerless to help.

‘People never forget. When the fancy takes them, they bring the old stories out and embroider them further.’

Available on Amazon

Thank you HFVBT and the author for a complimentary copy. I voluntarily reviewed this book. All opinions expressed are my own.

The Bridled Tongue by Catherine Meyrick, is exceptional historical fiction. This brilliantly executed novel is set between August 1586, through December 1589.

Alyce Bradley, a daughter of a mercer of high standing, was banished from her home twelve years ago and sent to live with a noblewoman, Lady Faulconer. Her parents deemed it necessary to squelch any rumors that might be associated with the family. Alyces grandmother died before any charges of witchcraft could be brought against her. Her grandmother friend was hanged as a witch 12 years ago, and this prompted her hastily removal from her family’s home in Norwich Village. This may have saved her life at this time.

Alyce is a sensible woman I completely connected to, and at the age of twenty-eight. Hard working, she hides herself under coif and aprons. Coming to terms with her lot in life, that did not received the good looks her sister has from their mother. She is a realist and has put her childish dreams away. The time spent away during her banishment has curtailed in hopes for a loving marriage or family.

So when she is told that her father is using a substantial dowry to find a husband for her, she only has one request. That she has the ultimate choice in the end.

Thomas Granville, who has just recently returned to England seeking investors for a new business venture. He is a some Wanamaker rakish reputation as privateer and a womanizer. Thomas remembers Alyce as child, but takes notice of her as a woman, when he visits the Mercer’s shop of Hugh Bradly.

Mr Bradly tells Thomas Granville that he is seeking a husband for his daughter Alyce, and she comes with a considerable large dowry. Thomas needs the funds and a companion for his sister, who health is failing.

Isabel Sutton, Alyce’s sister, is a petty girl, who has grown up to be a spiteful, jealous woman. Unhappy within her marriage and domestic situation. Lacking in true empathy towards her sister Alyce. Isabel allows jealousy to consume her, this has created a vicious and cruel temperament.

Alyce and Thomas’s marriage might be one of convenience, but they seem to be well matched. Even before the wedding ceremony there is some delightful romantic sparks. Their relationship grows more deeply as they take up residence together at Thomas estate. This secluded distance is just what the couple needs to strengthen their bonds of matrimony, and a beautiful romance blossoms within the comfort of their marriage.

When the past threatens the couple, and charges of witchcraft are brought against Alyce. She is then shown the true light of the people she seeks support from in her hour of need.

Catherine Meyrick delivers a complex, perfectly thought provoking beautifully written story. I was steadfast and completely absorbed deep within these characters lives. The exceptional prose and narration was phenomenal. An exquisitely written, ponderous look into one woman’s story struggling under the weight and malicious gossip and the accusations of witchcraft. The book’s creatively rich atmospheric details will catapult you to this riveting time period. In depth complex characters, and just the right amount romance adds this exceptional moving story. This is one captivating incredible book that has stayed with me far longer than any other in a long time.

An historical fiction that captures the effects of malicious gossip, and the spread of superstition, in a stunning thought provoking novel.

The Road to Delano
by John DeSimone

Publication Date: March 10, 2020
Rare Bird Books
Hardcover; 320 Pages

Genre: Historical Fiction

Jack Duncan is a high school senior whose dream is to play baseball in college and beyond―as far away from Delano as possible. He longs to escape the political turmoil surrounding the labor struggles of the striking fieldworkers that infests his small ag town. Ever since his father, a grape grower, died under suspicious circumstances ten years earlier, he’s had to be the sole emotional support of his mother, who has kept secrets from him about his father’s involvement in the ongoing labor strife.

With their property on the verge of a tax sale, Jack drives an old combine into town to sell it so he and his mother don’t become homeless. On the road, an old friend of his father’s shows up and hands him the police report indicating Jack’s father was murdered. Jack is compelled to dig deep to discover the entire truth, which throws him into the heart of the corruption endemic in the Central Valley. Everything he has dreamed of is at stake if he can’t control his impulse for revenge.

While Jack’s girlfriend, the intelligent and articulate Ella, warns him not to so anything to jeopardize their plans of moving to L.A., after graduation, Jack turns to his best friend, Adrian, a star player on the team, to help to save his mother’s land. When Jack’s efforts to rescue a stolen piece of farm equipment leaves Adrian―the son of a boycotting fieldworker who works closely with Cesar Chavez―in a catastrophic situation, Jack must bail his friend out of his dilemma before it ruins his future prospects. Jack uses his wits, his acumen at card playing, and his boldness to raise the money to spring his friend, who has been transformed by his jail experience.

The Road to Delano is the path Jack, Ella, and Adrian must take to find their strength, their duty, their destiny.

I’m John DeSimone, a novelist, memoirist, and author of The Road to Delano, a historical novel set in California’s Central Valley during the Delano grape strike led by Cesar Chavez. The story is both a coming of age story, and a historical novel rolled into one.

The inspiration for writing The Road to Delano came to me after reading about Cesar Chavez’s fast for nonviolence during the grape strike in 1968. As I studied and let the idea mature, I decided his moral stand, which I consider heroic, would have had to influence the moral choices of the young people around him. During my research, I decided that high school students must have been affected by Chavez’s stand in different ways. Jack, the son of a grower, and Adrian, the son of a farmworker, are confronted with choices.

I’m not talking about if they are going to use drugs or have sex with their girlfriends. Those are not trivial issues, for sure. But the choices they are faced with will shape their destiny and their characters in different ways far beyond their high school days. The Road to Delano is the path Jack and Adrian must take to find their strength, their duty, and their destiny.

My ambition in writing this novel is to bring to life a critical time in our state’s. history, indeed, in our country’s history. The ’60s were full of protests and movements, and the grape strike led by Cesar Chavez had its effect on our national scene. Not as dramatically as the lunch counter sit-ins in the South, but as necessary to an impoverished group of laborers, the farmworkers. Historical novels can frame an incident and help us understand the importance of the past to our lives today. I hope in writing this book, the heroic nature of Cesar Chavez’s self-sacrifice is remembered, and the story of my protagonists show truths that will last beyond a single reading of the book.

The Duke’s Wicked Wife by Elizabeth Bright

Happy Friday,
Today, I’m really excited to be taking part in the Book Tour of,The Duke’s Wicked Wife
by, Elizabeth Bright, which is being hosted by HFBT!

The Duke’s Wicked Wife
by Elizabeth Bright

Publication Date: March 16, 2020
Entangled Scandalous

Series: Wicked Secrets, Book 4
Genre: Historical Romance

Sebastian Sinclair, the Duke of Wessex, is not in love with Eliza Benton—nor anyone else, for that matter. But he must marry and produce an heir, and love is not required for either. His future duchess must be of high birth and good nature, a lady unlikely to snipe at him over breakfast. In short, the complete opposite of Eliza. So who better to help him find a bride?

Eliza Benton is not in love with the Duke of Wessex. He’s infuriating, arrogant, and an ass of the first order. Not that she has any intention of marrying anyone now that her secret dream is on the cusp of becoming reality. A husband would ruin all her careful plans. But she’s all for finding her nemesis the perfect bride, anything to get him from underfoot so she can focus on her writing.

Thank goodness Sebastian and Eliza aren’t in love. That would be disastrous.

This book was received from the Author, and Publisher, in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.All included quotes have been taken from an ARC and may not match the finished publication.

Elizabeth Bright, The Duke’s Wicked Wife, is witty and enticingly provocative.

Sebastian Sinclair, Duke of Wessex, Earl of Badington, and Knight of the Garter, has a life changing epiphany, after almost choking on a strawberry. He makes the incredible decision, to actually find a suitable wife and end his rakish bachelor days. He must procure wife posthaste, and produce an heir.

His request is just an eligible candidate that meet certain criteria for marriage, with the ultimate outcome, eventually an heir. Love is not a requirement.

Sebastian is renowned philanthropist he seeks out his beautiful friendly adversary, Miss Eliza Benton. Eliza and Sebastian have back story, that has developed from the previous books. They now enjoy a relaxed friendship, with witty sarcastic banter.

The Duke of Wessex was far too handsome for his own good. Perhaps otherwise intelligent ladies would be less tempted to fall into his bed if his eyes did not remind them of chocolate, sweet and sinful..”

Everything seems to be going just as planned, in six months Eliza will turn twenty-two years old. With this upcoming birthday she will inherit Hyacinth Cottage and 5 thousand pounds from her deceased parents. Eliza has chosen spinsterhood over having a family of her own. Not wanting to succumb to the same fate as her mother and step-mother. She is determined not to become derailed from making her secret dream a reality.

Eliza is sent a note for a meeting, at the house call, Sebastian request her help in pursuing a eligible bride. He has decided to plan a house party at his home, Pervale Hall in Derbyshire. Sebastian wants Eliza to make a list of 3-4 marriageable young women, with flawless reputations, for him to invite to his party and from which he will choose his bride.

I devoured this one as fast as I could and was completely drawn into the lives of these characters. I turned those pages as fast as I could, feeling completely immersed into the characters within this book.

This witty slow burn romance, completely captivated me. A delightful read, that you will have laugh out loud moments, as this tension filled budding romance slowly develops. I loved how their relationship develops over time from friends to lovers, as the storyline unfolds. I was captivated with Sebastian and Eliza as they allow the door to their hearts to open, in this heartwarming historical romance.

Elizabeth Bright is truly an engaging author, if you haven’t read any of her books,

I definitely recommend you do so. The supporting characters are definitely worth noting with interesting. The author does a superb job in writing diversity into her compelling regency period novel. Eliza’s friend, and companion, is Riya Kukherfee, a young woman from India. This adds even more depth to her lovely novel.

The Duke’s Wicked Wife, lives up to every promise, newcomers, and friends that have enjoyed the Wicked Series, will be enthralled by this lovely new addition.

Eliza sighed, Of course I’m not in love with him. I never intended marriage. I just wanted a kiss, is all.” Wanted was a pale, flimsy word to describe her feelings at that moment. She had needed a kiss with such overwhelming ferocity that for a moment, nothing else mattered. She had needed his kiss more than her solitary mornings, more than Hyacinth Cottage, more than the air she breathed.”

Have a wonderful day!!

Modern witchcraft blends with ancient Celtic mythology in an epic clash of witches and gods, perfect for fans of V.E. Schwab’s Shades of Magic trilogy and A DISCOVERY OF WITCHES.
Seventeen-year-old Dayna Walsh is struggling to cope with her somatic OCD; the aftermath of being outed as bisexual in her conservative Irish town; and the return of her long-absent mother, who barely seems like a parent. But all that really matters to her is ascending and finally, finally becoming a full witch-plans that are complicated when another coven, rumored to have a sordid history with black magic, arrives in town with premonitions of death. Dayna immediately finds herself at odds with the bewitchingly frustrating Meiner King, the granddaughter of their coven leader.
And then a witch turns up murdered at a local sacred site, along with the blood symbol of the Butcher of Manchester-an infamous serial killer whose trail has long gone cold. The killer’s motives are enmeshed in a complex web of witches and gods, and Dayna and Meiner soon find themselves at the center of it all. If they don’t stop the Butcher, one of them will be next.
With razor-sharp prose and achingly real characters, E. Latimer crafts a sweeping, mesmerizing story of dark magic and brutal mythology set against a backdrop of contemporary Ireland that’s impossible to put down.

A budding romance along with strong friendships, Witches of Ash and Ruin is a deeply immersive witchy read. The fast paced action plot line, with some memorable twists to keep you on your toes.

The backdrop is a small Irish town with a hardcore fanatical church, lots of witches, Celtic mythology, murder-mystery, along with well developed diverse characters – great LGBTQ representation, along with mental health issues.

A stunning plot-driven storyline with a great cast of characters that I liked and felt connected with. The writing flows perfectly and the author is able to balance the large cast of multiple POV’s.

E. Latimer Is able to pull you into the romance, enemies-to-lovers plot line. A budding relationship between Dayna and Meiner, who seem to be rivals, but take on a more romantic turn, as the book progresses the sparks fly.

And what is The Requiem that everyone keeps talking about? As Clint and his friends and family are drawn deeper into a thrilling adventure, only one thing is for sure. They may not be getting out alive. And class with Mrs Christenson will seem like a walk in the park after this.

This book was received from the Author, and Publisher, in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.

Requiem, Changing Times by R.J. Parker is a creative YA, Science Fiction / Dystopian fantasy adventure book

“Have you ever had a bad idea that you dismiss at once because it was a terrible idea?” Corbin asked Clint. “Well this was one of those ideas that I should have dismissed.

Clint’s life is about to change, school seems like any other day where Mrs. Christenson targets him for the principal’s office.

Something definitely is going on when, two groups of fantasy creatures have crossed over into his world. Each of them searching for Clint Holden, what could possibly tie him to the mysterious Requiem.

Today is one very odd day for Clint and his very best friends, Corbin Jenkins. When suddenly from nowhere a stranger attacks, They try to investigate what is actually going on around their town.

Thats when they come to realize that two different groups of fanatical creatures have crossed over into their world. Each of them searching for Clint and his ties to the mysterious Requiem. Clint has to keep up apparence…even with his home dynamics being a little chaotic and he is always seems to be getting into trouble at school.

This an exhilarating book faced paced with intriguing twists that keeps glued to the pages. Full of magical creatures action sequence drama. Parker’s exceptional dialogue is phenomenal, along with perfect comic timing makes for an enjoyable read. The writing was easy to follow and the author uses innovative narration in the way he allows the reader to be front and center. I don’t want to give to much away, if you are a inhaler of books, like I am you get my meaning right away.

The world building is magical and captivating and vibrant characters are three dimensional.

All in all it’s an riveting exceptional Young Adult book.

I am definitely looking forward to reading the next installment.

by Autumn Bardot

Publication Date: March 10, 2019
Cleis Press
eBook & Paperback; 384 Pages

Genre: Historical/Erotica

With a host of unforgettable characters and unbridled sensual escapades, Confessions of a Sheba Queen is a triumphantly erotic retelling of an indomitable woman prevailing in a man world.

During a raging sandstorm along a riverbed in the ancient lands of Saba, a powerful jinni born of smokeless fire gives birth to a half-human daughter. Bilqis does not inherit her mother magical abilities, but the fire of her jinni blood does imbue her with other powerful gifts. As she undergoes her rites of womanhood and her insatiable sexual hunger is awakened, it becomes clear this is the key to her great destiny prophesied at her birth. But it could also lead to her total undoing.

Bilqis comes to understand that her supernatural talents have the power to make men, and women, and nations prostrate themselves in utter devotion to her. When tragedy strikes, she leaves her home to seek revenge against the tyrannical god-king whose reign is a plague upon his land and people. Armed with only her body, courage, and wits, she quickly masters the art of seduction, all the while resisting the mind-consuming call to stay locked in an endless cycle of carnal passion.

Destiny soon intervenes, and what began as a quest for vengeance becomes a mission to heal the land of Saba from a twisted, corrupt regime and to see it become the wealthiest kingdom in all the land. Yet, it is only after meeting the already legendary and wildly attractive King Solomon that Bilqis discovers her greatest battle is not with others, but with herself.

CONFESSIONS OF A SHEBA QUEEN

BY AUTUMN BARDOT

*Historical Erotica*

This book was received from the Author, and Publisher, in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.

Autumn Bardot newest novel, is a captivating historical erotica.

Confessions of a Sheba Queen, is the phenomenal empowering story of Bilqis, a half Jinni. Bilqis who’s mother is a Jinni and her father an unknown human. This cinnamon hued, breathtaking golden eyed girl, who’s life was foretold to have a Great Destiny, by an Oracle. Residing in a small village of the kingdom of Saba, her mother spares nothing in her education. Tutored in mathematics, history, geography and economics, including in the sexual arts.

When her Jinn, momma is brutally murdered under the orders of a tyrannical corrupted King. Bilqis rises up with newfound strength and seeks vengeance on those who have committed this unthinkable crime along with the compassion to heal the land of Saba.

Seeking a trade deal for her people during a visit the fabled king of Solomon, she brings a decadent caravan of riches the likes of which is astounding.

This is richly descriptive book that is both passionate as it is engaging. Bardot, has truly created a whole new genre in writing, historical erotica, with a touch mystical realism. A bold astounding seductive tale bring to life an historical legendary Queen of Sheba. The books pace was brisk and vividly rendered, you will be completely carried away. The characters are well developed and narration is fluid.

Exquisitely written this page turner of a book is by far one of my favorites by this brilliant author.

Do you have a specific thing you do during your writing time? I fix a large cup of coffee, sit in my office, open my window, and write in total silence. My cats, Phoebe and Tiger usually run in and sit on the window ledge as I start writing or roll around and play. I get so much inspiration from watching these cats interact— so it’s perfect for the Alycat series.

What made you write a book about cats? Of course, I love cats. They are tenacious, fearless, and confident. When a problem occurs–which they often do for cats, they are determined to figure out a way to resolve it or move past it. Humans can learn a lot from cats, so they are perfect characters for books!

If you could go back in time, where would you go? I would go back to AD 27-29.

About Ever Alice

Description

Advance Praise

This book was received from the Author, and Publisher, in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.

A maddening wild psychological continuation, of a beloved classic. Or a re-imagined sequel.

When the book opens the year is 1888, and fifteen Alice Liddell is in the Warneford Asylum in Oxford. Her inventive ramblings have caused her parents a lot of sorrow and heartache. Having exhausted all avenues by taking her to every doctor in Oxford. The last doctor to evaluate Alice, is Dr Longfellow, who comes to the absurd conclusion that she is unmistakable “Mad”…. Or isn’t she?

Perhaps her close to death drowning, and all her delusional talk, might or might not be real. A brilliantly executed book with delightful delightful darker narration is told in two POV’s, Alice’s and Rosamund, the Queen of Hearts.

A romp back down the rabbit hole with some of the same cast of characters but they have evolved a bit. The creative world building is in magical and inventive. The dialogue is rich and holds the readers attention, with perfectly engaging satire.

The Queen of Hearts is cleverly depicted, I loved her paranoid point of view. It really add depth to the storyline and gives this novel a twisted perspective.

The book hooked me from the start and never slowed down, with its steadily-paced, absorbing, plot line.

I was enthralled with foreshadowing ending, it wasn’t rushed. It was delivered with impeccable timing.

The Lost History of Dreams
by Kris Waldherr

Paperback Publication Date: February 18, 2020
Atria Books
Hardcover & eBook; 336 Pages

Genre: Historical/Gothic/Mystery

A post-mortem photographer unearths dark secrets of the past that may hold the key to his future, in this captivating debut novel in the gothic tradition of Wuthering Heights and The Thirteenth Tale.

All love stories are ghost stories in disguise.

When famed Byronesque poet Hugh de Bonne is discovered dead of a heart attack in his bath one morning, his cousin Robert Highstead, a historian turned post-mortem photographer, is charged with a simple task: transport Hugh’s remains for burial in a chapel. This chapel, a stained glass folly set on the moors of Shropshire, was built by de Bonne sixteen years earlier to house the remains of his beloved wife and muse, Ada. Since then, the chapel has been locked and abandoned, a pilgrimage site for the rabid fans of de Bonne’s last book, The Lost History of Dreams.

However, Ada’s grief-stricken niece refuses to open the glass chapel for Robert unless he agrees to her bargain: before he can lay Hugh to rest, Robert must record Isabelle’s story of Ada and Hugh’s ill-fated marriage over the course of five nights.

As the mystery of Ada and Hugh’s relationship unfolds, so does the secret behind Robert’s own marriage—including that of his fragile wife, Sida, who has not been the same since the tragic accident three years ago, and the origins of his own morbid profession that has him seeing things he shouldn’t—things from beyond the grave.

Kris Waldherr effortlessly spins a sweeping and atmospheric gothic mystery about love and loss that blurs the line between the past and the present, truth and fiction, and ultimately, life and death.

This book was received from the Author, and Publisher, in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.

Thank you Amy of HFBT, along with Atria Books, and the author, Kris Waldherr, for giving me an opportunity to read this beautiful novel in exchange for my honest opinion.

Kris Waldherr’s latest novel, The Lost History of Dreams is a forbidding historical mystery that brings to mind some of classical gothic-romance of the past.

When famed the Byronesque poet Hugh de Bonne, whose last work was titled,

The Lost History of Dreams, is discovered dead, his cousin Robert Highstead, who is a post-death photographer, {daguerreotype}, is tasked by his estranged brother to deliver Hugh’s body to his old home in the moors of Shropshire England. Robert’s simple task is to deliver the body to a stained glass folly the author had built to hold the remains of his wife, Ada.

Ada’s niece, Isabelle, however has never gotten over the death of her aunt Ada, and she refuses to allow Robert into the folly….unless he allows her to tell Ada’s story over the course of five nights.. reminiscent of a major female character and the storyteller in the famed, One Thousand and One Nights.

There is a slow burning creepiness to story line that meticulously builds with intensity as the story goes on. Like the best classical writers of this genre, the author takes her time building up to the story itself. This allows the full effect of creating uneasiness for the reader. The book is hauntingly eerie, full of beautiful lyrical prose set in Victorian England, Kris Waldherr masterfully complex inventive storyline is full of multilayered stories within stories. The book is spine-tingling and very mysterious. The beautiful dark imagery is breathtaking, creating a dream like atmosphere.

This mesmerizing top notch, gothic historical novel, is the perfect tension filled read. An compelling well written plot line with twist that keep guessing. A captivating tale of obsessive love, grief, mystery, that unfolds ingenious. Making this a stellar book, and one of my favorites by far this year.

I am now a dedicated entranced fan of Kris Waldherr, and I am looking forward to reading anything this author writes from now on.

Book Quote:

“All houses have a story to tell, Isabelle began. Some houses are akin to fairy tales, as many claim of Ada’s Folly. Other houses are structured like poems, with rooms devoted to beauty but lacking in function. However, only a few houses offer ghost stories. They’re built to be trampled by sorrow and loss. And that’s what you’ll find deep within the very walls and doors of Weald House: a ghost story begun from love.

Someone, or something, is haunting the Titanic.
This is the only way to explain the series of misfortunes that have plagued the passengers of the ship from the moment they set sail: mysterious disappearances, sudden deaths. Now suspended in an eerie, unsettling twilight zone during the four days of the liner’s illustrious maiden voyage, a number of the passengers – including millionaires Madeleine Astor and Benjamin Guggenheim, the maid Annie Hebbley and Mark Fletcher – are convinced that something sinister is going on . . . And then, as the world knows, disaster strikes.
Years later and the world is at war. And a survivor of that fateful night, Annie, is working as a nurse on the sixth voyage of the Titanic’s sister ship, the Britannic, now refitted as a hospital ship. Plagued by the demons of her doomed first and near fatal journey across the Atlantic, Annie comes across an unconscious soldier she recognises while doing her rounds. It is the young man Mark. And she is convinced that he did not – could not – have survived the sinking of the Titanic . . .

This book was received from the Author, and Publisher, in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.

The Deep, is based on Violet Constance Jessop, on the incredible survivor of both the Titanic and the Brittanic

The Deep, by Alma Katsu

An astonishing type of paranormal that will have wide appeal among historical fictional readers

Stunning atmospheric prose and exquisite imagery, Katsu captivates the reader in such a way with the history of the RMS Titanic and its sister ship the HMHS Brittanic.

This haunting story grabs the the reader complete attention. As this erie tale unfolds you will be immersed into the lives of the passengers and crew. Giving the reader just enough historical details entwined in to her own creative imagination.

In 1912, Annie Hebbley, an eighteen year old Irish girl escaping a scandal is eager to leave her small Irish Northern town, travels to Southampton England. Annie than takes a job as stewardess aboard the disastrous, Titanic.

The luxurious and decadent, ill fated ship contains everything imaginable for the privileged. Annie Along within Madeleine Astor and Benjamin Guggenheim, are in the mind set that something sinister is going on with disappearances . . . Someone, or something, is haunting the Titanic.

And then, as the world knows, disaster strikes.

This paranormal infused historical fiction novel is told in dual timelines- 1912 aboard the Titanic and 1916 the Britannic

Four years later, hiding from the world within a psychiatric hospital, Annie struggles with her past and all that she has been through. After receiving correspondence from her friend, Violet Jessop, another survivor of the Titanic. Annie has agrees to work as a nurse on board the Britannic (the Titanic’s sister ship). The Britannic has become a war hospital ship during wartime. A stark difference than the majestic Titanic.

It also has eerily identical layout as the Titanic, along with a deeply unsettling ghostly presence of a man. One Annie thought she had lost, who she has been thinking of is completely drawn to. Readers will slowly come to understand the true nature of Annie’s often strangely odd behavior.

The authors impeccable character development is what makes this book a phenomenal book. I was completely engaged with the storyline right from the start and the pace and tension didn’t slow down until I closed the book. What a wonderful read with intriguing meticulously plotted mystery, along with notable researched historical elements.

“A ship so massive, and here we are, trapped on it, nowhere to run.” She shivered “One is always trapped within oneself though”

Praise for MERMAID MOON

“Susann Cokal’s latest miracle, Mermaid Moon, springs from the tides where Hans Christian Andersen’s Little Mermaid once swam — and walked to land. But she delivers something even more rich and strange, and a mermaid heroine who will swim away with your heart.” —Gregory Maguire, author of Wicked and Egg & Spoon

“Cokal’s moody and sea-drenched tale weaves touches of Hans Christian Andersen with a dash of Pied Piper, using language that gorgeously sets each scene, including the exceedingly creepy bone vault … Lyrical, complex, and occasionally dark.” —School Library Journal

“Cokal creates a well-developed matriarchal mermaid mythology in which women couple, bonded by love and respect, and men are largely unnecessary. Through several voices and richly detailed prose, these markedly different worlds overlap and diverge to impart a nuanced exploration of power, family, faith, and love.” —Publishers Weekly

“Mermaid Moon is an action-packed tale of parental abandonment, familial longing, treachery and dark magic with an appealingly determined heroine.” —BookPage

“A beautifully told, immersive story that layers fairy-tale elements with more modern themes, allowing for a different experience with every reread.” —Shelf Awareness

In the far northern reaches of civilization, a mermaid leaves the sea to look for her land-dwelling mother among people as desperate for magic and miracles as they are for life and love.

Blood calls to blood; charm calls to charm.
It is the way of the world.
Come close and tell us your dreams.
—The Mermaids

Sanna has been living as a mermaid — but she is only half seavish. The night of her birth, a sea-witch cast a spell that made Sanna’s people, including her landish mother, forget how and where she was born.

Now Sanna is sixteen and an outsider in the seavish flok where women rule and mothers mean everything. She is determined to go to land and learn who she is. So she apprentices herself to the ancient witch, Sjældent, to learn the magic of making and unmaking. With a new pair of legs and a mysterious quest to complete for her teacher, she follows a clue that leads her ashore on the Thirty-Seven Dark Islands.

Her fellow mermaids wait floating on the seaskin as Sanna stumbles into a wall of white roses thirsty for blood, a hardscrabble people hungry for miracles, and a baroness of fading beauty who will do anything to live forever, even at the expense of her own children.

From the author of the Michael L. Printz Honor Book The Kingdom of Little Wounds comes a gorgeously told tale of belonging, sacrifice, fear, hope, and mortality.

The roses are pouring forth a deeper scent, one that plunges to the bottom of the belly. It is the best scent, and the red is the most beautiful color, any of these poor people have known in their lives. And the cause of it all–that stranger, the pale-haired, blue-robed girl–now lies in the rose vine’s embrace, with thorns in her skin, her own blood glittering richer than Baroness Thyrla’s jewels. Richer even than the red of the roses. The people break out both laughing and weeping. When at last they can speak, they cry, “Miracle!’

MERMAID MOON by Susann Cokal delivers a lovely immersive retelling, matriarchal mermaid mythology. Where women are bonded couples, While men are largely unnecessary. The tale follows Sanna, a half-landish mermaid who leaves her flok to seek her human mother. Being advised by the ancient, riddle-tongued sea witch Sjældent. Sanna seeks out a castle ruled by ageless and unkind Baroness Thyrla.

Thyrla, is dark and deadly witch who has amassed great power by doing unspeakable crimes of stealing powers and youth….even from

This engaging book is with its richly detailed prose, is complex and provocative. This ya fantasy, fiction tale unfolds with darkish undertones, is a stunning atmospheric read. As the plot takes some notable twists, Sanna, finds herself betrothed and no where closer to finding the treasure that Sjældent requires as payment.

A suspenseful, vivid, richly detailed, with interesting and compelling characters and vibrant world building.
